Black Friday, Reimagined

founder @ CoPeace

Published on Nov 24, 2020

There’s no ignoring the push to spend money this time of year. Black Friday and Cyber Monday are times when many of us buy things we don’t need… and this year, the urge to heal our 2020 wounds with retail therapy might be glaring at all of us loud and clear.

So, as this “holiday” quickly approaches, it got us thinking… What if we reimagine Black Friday this year?

What if — rather than purchasing electronics or home goods or products we might never use — we encouraged friends and family in our circles to invest in impact, rather than spend on material things, on Black Friday this year?

Investing feels good in the short term and provides an opportunity to earn financial returns in the long term. When you can encourage your loved ones to invest in causes they care about like climate crisis solutions, cleantech innovation, economic equality, and social justice — you can help them put their money where their future is.

We all know the glory of a shiny new object wears off (fast). But a strategic investment is something you can feel proud of for years to come.

Would you be willing to share this idea with your network? We’d be very grateful if you did!

Here’s a sample social media post you can use on your platforms:

I’m reimagining Black Friday this year. Rather than spending my money on things I don’t need, I’m investing with impact to make a difference in causes I care about: https://wefunder.com/copeace.

Finally — a Black Friday deal we can all get behind!

The reimagination idea reminds me of when I lived in India. Material things were not the drivers of happiness. Community connections created the real joy. Allowing communities to breathe and have the opportunities to appreciate these connections is one of our drivers here at CoPeace.

Thank you very much for your continued support – we are closing in on $1.9 million cumulatively raised to date! The foundation we are creating will continue to allow us to have deep impact in 2021, and beyond. We will be announcing a new way to engage our community in one of our upcoming investments, soon - watch the Community page for the updates: https://www.copeace.com/community/

P.S. Naturally, there are times when we seek a different kind of gift. CoPeace is partnering with DoneGood by giving everyone $20 off purchases of $100 or more by using promo code "CoPeace20" at checkout! It's never been easier to shop sustainable & ethically made products from a fellow B Corp member. Their “Shop For Good Sunday” starts today... includes a sale on recycled bomb chopsticks from Laos.
