Our Founder

Born of necessity, after spending 3 years in Afghanistan, it became painfully obvious a more economic transportation solution was needed when Pakistan closed its border for the third time, attempting to squeeze more cash out of the US taxpayer. Greater payloads, minimal ground infrastructure and less fuel consumption make LTA a better solution.

Pitch

We started in 2012 the same as most startups, with a need.

First, we had to convince ourselves the technology was sound.

Back in 2012, it began as a brainstorming session with the intent of finding a more economic means of transporting cargo with little or no dependency on ground infrastructure.

There was only one technology that could meet our criteria, and we were surprised to find it had already been used successfully for nearly 40 years.

Could it compete with today's transportation technology?

Our next step was to determine how it would rank against today's transportation technology. Could it compete on a ton-mile per gallon basis with our current modes of transportation.

We performed a mathematical comparison pitting the Hindenburg's fuel economy, using 1930's diesel engine technology, against today's top 2 performers - the railroad and cargo shipping. What we discovered was game changing. A 1930's airship could not only match the railroad's fuel economy, but had the added advantage of direct point-to-point travel, free from the restrictions of costly ground infrastructure.

What about actual operating costs, is it still a viable technology ?

The US rail network is comprised of nearly 140,000 miles of track and over 100,00 bridges.

According to a 2017 report created by the ASCE, federal forecasts predict a 40% increase in US freight shipments by 2040.

On average, the 7 Class I railroads in the US spend approximately $20 billion per year upgrading and maintaining their rail infrastructures.

These costs are passed down to the consumer in the retail price of the goods they purchase.

In addition to these costs, a shipment of goods is touched by human hands multiple times in transit before reaching the end user. This represents a significant labor and time cost.

Now imagine a world where the finished product is retrieved from the manufacturer and delivered directly to the reseller. What kind of cost benefit would that be?
