Balanced News Growing and Thriving – for AllSides and our Clients

Hello everyone,

A quick update on what’s happening at AllSides—things are moving fast and forward to new pastures.

So called “industry experts” often think that tribalism, bias and extremism is the best way to make money in news media. They are wrong. There is way too much of that nowadays, and multiple international surveys on democracies report that the US news media is the least trusted, or one of the least trusted, in the free world. That lack of trust, and more importantly trustworthiness, is the core problem in news media today.

So the news media industry keeps suffering, rapidly losing customers and dollars to social media, podcasts, and just about any alternative. The numbers from the Washington Post, MSNBC, CNN and others, especially since the election, are horrific.

But at the same time, news organizations that have devoted themselves to balance and more trustworthy objectivity have been growing.

We have been working with Newsweek for years to help balance their news, and they have had extraordinary success and growth. Spectrum News, with TV news stations and digital news in over 30 markets across the country in places like New York City and LA, have been using AllSides Media Bias Audits and other AllSides services to ensure and improve their balance and objectivity, with great results.

And AllSides.com continues to grow while others shrink. Our month to month traffic (without ad campaigns that can “fake” growth) grew 17% in January and 28% in February, while news aggregators and legacy media grew just 3% and 7% in January before shrinking -10.5% and -8% in February.

Since the election, we have had a dramatic increase in interest in our Media Bias Audits, our Bias Checker technologies and other services, and currently have the largest sales pipeline we have ever had.

All of these examples provide more evidence that political balance is not just good for democratic society, but also for business.

Thanks for joining us.
