Fighting an Epidemic within a Pandemic. How can you help?
More than 500,000 Americans have overdosed from substance use disorder over the last few decades, primarily opioid use disorder from overuse of prescription drugs such as oxycontin. This problem has been exacerbated in the last twenty months by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
All current treatments for opioid use disorder such as methadone are themselves opioids. This is like putting a fox into a henhouse.
Cannabis can help because they can satisfy some of the same receptors in the brain that demand satiation by opioids.
We must, however, keep these receptors satisfied by cannabinoids to prevent cue-induced relapse.
We plan to achieve this by utilizing cannabinoid nanoparticles to sustain their release and satisfy opioid-seeking receptors for prolonged periods of time reducing opioid dependence. We are Inspired by Nature and Enabled by Science.
