The everyday use of the internet has opened up access to a whole range of artistic talent that we may otherwise have never discovered. The artwork you choose to display will likely vary in style and why you picked it from room to room. For example, your living room is more personal, relaxed, and intimate than an office.

There are now various platforms where artists can upload their work to sell as prints, cushions, mugs, stickers, and clothing. These platforms are a great way to discover and support up and coming talent. Due to this, it’s never been easier to enhance the overall look and feel of any room with art prints.

Change It Up

Art is subjective by its very nature, so a piece that might appeal to you might not appeal to everyone, which is something to consider when working on the appearance of an office or shared workspace. Unless you know the tastes of the people you are sharing a space with, it is best to stick with inoffensive colour palettes and aim for a more minimalistic approach. If you have the task of enhancing a workspace, maybe try to incorporate some of the company brand colours into the artwork subtly.

If you are renting your home but have a strong preference for more bold and vibrant colours and designs, you can add your vibrancy with larger prints instead of getting permission to paint walls. Make sure you use removable wall hooks for your frames if you cannot hammer nails into the walls!

Selecting Your Print

One plus point of using artwork in this way is that it is relatively cost-effective to change your pieces around frequently. Updating your artwork isn’t something you could do easily with an actual painting, as it would require storage space and protective materials. With an art print, you just need to roll them up and store them safely in cardboard tubes with lids to keep the items from being damaged. In the same way that you might freshen up your winter wardrobe when it gets to spring, you might want to introduce some lighter colours into your home when the seasons change.

Studies have shown that nature scenes can help reduce stress while surrealist artwork can inspire creativity and out of the box thinking. When planning your decor, try to think of how you want the people within the room to feel and act and then buy your prints accordingly.

When buying prints for your home, you have many different factors to consider. As a good starting point, you can photograph the wall you want to hang your artwork on and use your phone or tablet to draw different shapes and sizes to see what works best. The size of an image can be the difference between the piece being a talking point or a subtle enhancement. You will need to look at the space you have and visualise where you want the print or prints to sit. You then have a rough idea of what you require regarding the logistics of your purchases.

When buying art for your own home, you can go all out on personal touches. While our photographs of friends and family are always great additions to have around the house to see the smiling faces of our loved ones, a professional illustration of your honeymoon location can be chic yet meaningful. If you have a favourite place that brings back good memories, why not search for artwork that is either professional photography or an illustration of that place. Alternatively, the art print can be somewhere you’ve always dreamed of going instead of somewhere you have already been.

Animal prints are always a great idea for making a playroom or child's bedroom more playful and fun. It’s always an inclusive idea to let your children look at artwork with you and see what they gravitate towards. It’s also a lovely way to introduce them to the world of art and see how many different styles and ranges there are, something you can reinforce next time you go to a museum or art gallery.

Before putting your prints in place, the final step is choosing the perfect frame. Your frame choice will also depend on the room and the purpose of the art. If the purpose of your art is to be a subtle enhancement of a room, then go for a simple wooden frame in the same tones as the floor or furniture. If you are looking for a striking talking point, you might want to spend more money on a more eye-catching frame. Alternatively, you can find elaborate pre-loved frames in charity shops that will add a unique twist than if you were to buy from a high street store.
