We've had a very busy two weeks with some major accomplishments to check off on our path to open Harlan County's first legal brewery. We also want people to know that we are holding two open forums for investors and those just curious. An online forum will be on Monday, May 17th at 5PM (Eastern) using the Zoom video platform. A link to that forum is below. We will also hold an in-person forum on Wednesday, May 19th at 5pm at the brewery location at 120 E. Central Street in Harlan, KY. Founders Gill Holland and Geoff Marietta will be at both forums. They will provide updates, answer any questions, and address anything people want to know about Harlan County Beer Company. Now on to the construction updates.

State Review Update

One of the most important and time consuming things to do when completing a major commercial renovation is to have the plans reviewed by the state housing and building division. That process can take months. We submitted our full plans to the Kentucky Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction months ago. Below is an excerpt of one page of the plans showing plumbing details to give you an idea about what is necessary. The plans were carefully reviewed and just about a week ago we received a list of only 6 items to correct. They included such things as the location of the water fountains and placement of the kitchen hood exhaust. The great news is that the items are all easily addressed. So, the next step is we'll correct the items on the plans, submit our changes, and then (hopefully) get approval to go full steam ahead with new construction. It's really perfect timing for us because we have the brewery space all demoed, cleaned, and ready.

Exposed Brick Walls and Plaster

You hear people say all the time, "They don't build them like they used to." We couldn't agree more when it comes to historic buildings. The brickwork alone in the brewery must have taken many workers hundreds of hours to construct. And we are going to do our best to show off that craftsmanship. Below are some pictures that give you a feel for what the brewery will look like. We will try to keep all the exposed brick in the back and front of the brewery. The plaster that we can't remove easily will provide some depth and patterns to the walls.

Beyond demo and cleaning up a space for new construction, there are a few other very important steps to take before starting. You need temporary electric, water, and a place to use the bathroom. We'll spare you the pictures of the temporary electric setup and Porta John (thank you Harlan Septic Services!). But, check out our temporary water setup!

Investor Forums, May 17 and 19

If you can make it, please plan on attending our first open forums for people who have invested and for those who are just curious. The first one will be online on Monday, May 17th at 5pm through Zoom. The second one will be in-person at the brewery in Harlan on Wednesday, May 19th at 5pm. Here are the details:

Gill and Geoff will be at both forums to answer any questions, talk about the investment opportunity, and provide updates. We hope to see you there and remember to say Thank You to Harlan County!
