Activision have demonstrated their intent of capturing a large share of the mobile games market, which should come as no surprise. Looking at the data, mobile gaming has massively expanded the ever-growing esports market in recent years, especially within the South-East Asian regions; mobile games account for almost 50% of the video games market!

After a successful closed beta that took place in Australia, Canada, and India, the game has now been fully released. COD: Mobile currently has the second highest-grossing app in the Apple’s US App Store according to analytics service Sensor Tower.

At this point, Activision has confirmed that the game will feature maps, characters and weapons from previous Call of Duty titles, with more to be added in due course. For now, stick around so we can provide you with everything you need to know regarding COD: Mobile!

When is Call of Duty: Mobile available?

The game fully released today (01/10/2019) and is available in all countries that support the App Store and Google Play, excluding Mainland China, Vietnam and Belgium.

Despite the fact that Call of Duty: Mobile was developed by Chinese gaming powerhouse Tencent, video game releases in China face great scrutiny as regulators are careful with the nature of games that are available to minors. Earlier on in the year, PUBG, faced similar issues due to the government restrictions, so it is no surprise COD: Mobile has not launched in China…yet.

Will I have to pay?

Call of Duty: Mobile

No! Following the trend of popular free-to-play titles, COD: Mobile is free. Players have the option to make in-game purchases for COD points; these purchases can start from $1.49, and cost as much as $159.99 but these points can also be earned whilst playing; COD points can then used for “powering up”, or can be traded for skins and weapons.

Players also have the option of Free and Premium Battle Passes.

What gameplay modes will be available?Multiplayer

Players have a choice of three types of matches: normal, ranked or private. Ranked matches reward players with XP points as well as other exciting in-game items.

There are currently five multiplayer modes confirmed for COD: Mobile, which include; Free-For-All, Frontline, Team Deathmatch, Hardpoint and Domination. The Free-For-All game mode will support a maximum of eight players, whilst the rest support up to 10 players.

Battle Royale

It is no surprise COD have opted for a battle royale mode considering just how popular PUBG and Fortnite have become. Looking at COD: Mobile’s battle royale mode, developers say that it will be familiar to the players of Blackout on COD: Black Ops, but not entirely identical.

Matches will host up to 100 players on a map, with the option for singles, duos and four-player teams. Before the round commences, players can choose from six character classes: Defender, Mechanic, Scout, Clown, Medic, or Ninja; each character class will posses a unique ability.

As with the case in Blackout, players will land into the map, and well, standard rules of last player standing apply. Players playing in a team will have the ability to revive teammates, who will come back into place once healed.

To add further chaos, players can also make use of vehicles, which include SUV’s all-terrain vehicles, light helicopters and tactical rafts. These will no doubt come in handy, especially when trying to avoid the contracting circle of death — yes, much like Fortnite!

What maps does COD: Mobile feature?

In terms of maps, COD: Mobile features some of the franchise’s most popular. Of those confirmed, Modern Warfare’s Crash, Crossfire and Killhouse are available, with Black Ops’ Nuketown, and Black Ops 2’s Highjacked also featuring. COD: Mobile also includes the Firing Range from Black Ops 4, which has also seen a revamp, whilst fans eagerly await the confirmation of more!

And what characters can I use in COD: Mobile?

Not only does COD: Mobile’s battle royale mode give you the option to select different character classes, but other game modes within the mobile version features characters from the franchise, with the ability to customise each character.

Whilst Activision will remain tight-lipped to to maintain the element of surprise for players, they have already confirmed that Modern Warfare’s John “Soap” McTavish, Simon “Ghost” Riley and John Price will feature, a COD: Ghosts character, but as Thomas A. Merrick; very intriguing indeed. Alex Mason and David “Section” Mason from the Black Ops series are also both available.

What’s your take on all of this? From what we have seen, this game will most definitely soon occupy a place as a leading mobile esports title. Battle royales are hot property right now and Activision have just made a huge statement of intent as we enter what could be the most enthralling esports competitive year ever. Let us know what you think? Who knows, it could be the ideal mobile title to feature in the IGGalaxy!
