During the Holiday season, we distributed free solar lanterns to Palestinian farmer families in the northern Jordan Valley.  These families live in very close proximity to Israeli settlements yet are denied access to electricity, which often is delivered to settlements on poles that go through the farmland. 

As a social enterprise, Green Olive is always mindful about the oppressed and less fortunate peoples in Palestine and Israel. This solar lantern program is aimed at Palestinian farmers and Bedouin communities that live off the grid. On our e-commerce fair trade website MadeInPeace.com, we sell ingeniously designed self contained solar lanterns. For every lantern that we sell to supporters around the world, we give one lantern to a family. Over the past three years we have distributed free lanterns to hundreds of families in the Jordan valley and the Judean desert.

These lamps are powerful. After sitting in the sun for 5-6 hours, one of them can light up a room for an equal number of hours. This can make a huge difference in quality of life for the recipient families.
