Golden Knights vs. Sharks Preview

After a 5-0 home victory over the Sharks in Game 4, it looked like the Golden Knights were in excellent shape and poised to close the series out. That proved not to be the case, as San Jose rebounded with two straight wins. For the season, Vegas was in 7th place in the west with 93 points.

On Sunday, the teams were deadlocked at 1-1 at the close of regulation. They would need two OTs to decide things. Tomas Hertl got to play hero for the night with a shorthanded goal to keep the Sharks alive. On the year, San Jose finished up in 2nd place in the west with 107 points.

Vegas Golden Knights

The series didn’t open up well for Vegas, as they came out on the wrong side of a 5-2 decision in Game 1 after a lackluster effort. The team was able to flip the switch and rip off three straight wins, but San Jose responded to knot things up. For the last 10 games, Vegas is 4-4-2 (6-4 O/U). On the road, the club checks in at 20-22-2.

Marc-Andre Fleury has the probable tag tonight. He was 35-21-5 this year with a 2.51 GAA and .913 save percentage. For the playoffs, Fleury is 3-3 with a 2.47 GAA and .912 save percentage. Mark Stone leads with six playoff goals. Max Pacioretty and Paul Stastny are tops with six assists each.

San Jose Sharks

It was looking like San Jose was dead in the water after Game 4, as Vegas outscored them by a total of 16-6 while winning three straight. The Sharks responded big time with a 5-2 win in Game 5, which was followed by Sunday’s OT victory. Over the last 10, San Jose is 5-5 (6-4 O/U). The Sharks are stout at home with record of 27-12-5.

Martin Jones is your likely starter tonight. He was 36-19-5 this year with a .896 save percentage and 2.94 GAA. In the postseason, Jones is 3-2 with a 3.23 GAA and .906 save percentage. Tomas Hertl leads the team with five playoff goals, while Erik Karlsson is tops with seven assists.

Golden Knights vs. Sharks Prediction

For the last 10 meetings, the teams are tied at 5-5. Two games over that span have gone to OT, both of which were won by San Jose. Game totals are 7-3 for the last 10.

This series has been a roller coaster, and the end result should be an epic Game 7. In the end, Fleury has been the stronger postseason goaltender. We’ll look for Vegas to advance to round two of the playoffs.
