If you have ever done a crowdfunding campaign yourself you will know that it is a roller-coaster of nerves and excitement. The last few weeks have been nail-biting and the last few hours have been over-the-top exciting as we watch our campaign numbers rise.
In our business we have to plan 9 months in advance to be ready with our trees and farmers. Back in September, when we launched our campaign, we knew that if we hit our maximum raise we would need 60,000 trees. So, we threw our hats over the fence and started growing.
Those 60,000 trees are now sitting in nurseries in Alabama, British Columbia, Costa Rica and Guatemala. We have a full complement of farmers in all regions, and last week our first farmers received their trees. These guys are amazing: dedicated, committed and ready to go.
In this picture (below) we have our newest farmer, Carmelita, who is the head of a farm in Costa Rica and is planting 1000 trees. The woman in yellow is our very own Mariana who works with all our farmers in Costa Rica.
Reaching the Peak
Now we have the trees and the farmers, we’ve been on the edge of our seats hoping to bring in enough investors to plant all the trees. Today the campaign jumped by $100,000 in the space of a few hours. We are on the verge of meeting the $500,000 milestone and over 200 people have invested so far.
The whole World Tree team are doing happy dances. Thank you so much for believing in us.
We have a few days to go. Every $1000 you invest allows us to plant another half acre (or 55) trees. Can we reach $1 million? Crazier things have happened - and the impact we will make is profound. $1 million will allow us to plant 60,000 trees with over 30 farmers like Carmelita. We will draw down 500,000 tons of carbon, restore the soil, and provide food for the honeybees.
