Our Team

Well, quite simply, after hearing story after story of the callous and horrific behavior of Harvey Weinstein, I wanted to find a way to continue to give voice to the movement and to help empower those who felt powerless by showing that these assaults happen in every walk of life, not just the film industry, but everywhere and to anyone.

82% of all juvenile sexual assault victims are female. 90% of adult rape victims are female.

Synopsis

On the eve of Valentine’s Day, Francesca Giordano awakens from a drug induced state to find she’s alone and in the dark, on top of what feels like a gurney. She calls out for help. No answer. She steps off the gurney and gropes in the darkness for a door. Suddenly, she hears the crackle of a walkie-talkie, and then a voice utters the words, “Are you scared?” She re- plies, “Who is this?” Sorrow takes his time to respond, as he stands alongside his buddies Pleasure, Joy, Pain and Hurt, hoping to heighten Francesca’s fear. After what feels like an eternity, he finally hisses the words “We’re going to break you.” In that moment, Francesca knows that she is in a fight for her life.

What her captors haven’t accounted for is that Francesca knows who they are and that she has a different plan for their 8th year anniversary. She does not plan to be their eighth victim. Francesca is a fighter with skills honed through military service and martial arts training. They thought they were hunting her. She was hunting them.

What Sorrow and his pals never understood is that their actions have consequences. Their victims have friends and families. Some friends don’t forgive and others don’t forget.

Francesca was both.

Why invest with us?

The team behind the 8th Year isn’t just making a movie. Of course, all of the usual goals, and plans such as putting together a great cast, making a wonderful film, and getting awesome distribution are a top priority. But that’s not why we choose to make THIS film. The 8th Year has a very special significance and importance to the team because it hits close to home for some of us. It’s this personal connection that we have to the material that will result in an exceptional film.

In addition to the fact that we have a great team with a great deal of movie making experience, we have selected a talented award-winning director.

Why now?

Sexual abuse has had a long history of being ignored or blaming the victim. When the entertainment industry stood up and said no more will this be the status quo by taking to task two of the industry's most iconic moguls,  a movement was born. A movement that become known by two words “Me Too.” This movement sparked a change in the entertainment industry that has hand ripple effects across other industries. Many companies introducing more stringent harassment policies with dire consequences as severe as losing one’s employment. In order for this paradigm shift to have long lasting, permanent effects, the work of the movement must remain in the minds of the public conscious, which means it must not loose momentum. With the positive reception of the multi-nominated Academy award film, Promising Young Woman, it is clear that the time is now for another film to pick up the mantel and lead the charge. That film is the 8th Year.

Budget

Our total budget to cover prep-production, production and post production is $1,887,715 USD. This budget will allow us to deliver a quality film to market. We are seeking to raise the first $250,000 through crowdfunding with the rest of the funds being acquired through various financial sources such as Tax credits/incentives, Gap financing, private equity and leveraging pre=sales contracts.

Below is an example of how the financing breakdown could be structured. These numbers are not absolute and will vary depending on equity partners, casting for pre-sales, state tax incentives and possible loan-outs for the film. Producers are open to discussing this structure and merely want to present an option that is diverse.

Risk

The business of the production of motion pictures (the “Business”), and motion-picture soundtracks are highly speculative and have historically involved substantial risks beyond the control of its producers. Accordingly, there can be no assurance that the Managers will be able to raise funds sufficient to produce the Picture and/or Soundtrack so as to enable the Buyers to recoup all or any portion of their investment (i.e., capital contributions) or to earn a profit therefrom.

Even if the Company is successful in its fund-raising efforts, the Company is subject to substantial risks regarding the production and distribution of its Property. Recruiting qualified individuals who are available, willing to travel to desired location(s), where principal photography will take place, and willing to work within the restrictions of the Managers’ production plan may be difficult, and the Company may not be able to recruit the most well-qualified individuals. Production of feature films is inherently risky for many reasons, including but not limited to the number of personnel required to produce a film; their ability to work together; the long hours and restrictive deadlines; the daily costs to rent equipment and pay personnel; the availability of equipment or replacement equipment; the possibility of delays because of weather, injury or equipment failure; the cost of insurance and the possibility of an insurance claim being rejected; the availability of insurance for filming in various countries; the risk of theft, loss and damage to equipment or locations; the risk of injury to crew or cast; the risk of the death of key personnel; the geological risks of earthquakes and the local terrain; the geographical risk of warfare, crime, trafficking, kidnapping, or extortion; acquiring permits from local governments; and other risks inherent in multiple people having to work together for long hours over extended periods of time in foreign countries with complicated and complex machinery with a goal of an intended, precise outcome.

There is no guarantee that the Managers will be successful in making the arrangements necessary to provide for the wide distribution of the Property. The gross revenues derived from the Property are dependent upon securing distribution of the Property and a paying-for-attendance/purchasing audience. Accordingly, without the foregoing the Company will derive few, if any, revenues. The Managers are unable to predict the timing or amount of receipts, if any, to be derived by the Company from distribution of the Property.
