Our Team

Local communities are often left behind in the increasing globalization of soccer. We chose this project in order to help preserve a piece of Blackpool history, create new history in the city of Metropolis and overall help make tangible positive impacts in two oft-neglected communities.

Why South Shore?

We are starting play in Spring/Summer 2023, it may feel like a lifetime away but we have been working solidly for a year already and there is a lot to do, fail to prepare, prepare to fail! We have pushed back our launch date from its original Summer 2022 start.

We are all aware of the truly global nature of soccer. Players are bought and sold for tens of millions, tickets can cost hundreds, and the teams are owned by billionaires. We've all daydreamed about owning a sports team, often because all like to fantasize about what we do better. However, for the majority of us, it's merely a pipe dream.

Away from the glory (and money) of the top-flight, you find a thriving community of teams that play for passion and their community. Soccer would not be able to sustain itself without the grassroots foundation that can be found in every village, town, and city wherever football is played.

That's where South Shore comes in. We are a brand-new grassroots soccer organization that wants to play entertaining soccer while making a positive tangible impact on our local communities, and the world as a whole.

“All of us, at some time or other, need help. Whether we’re giving or receiving help, each one of us has something valuable to bring to this world. That’s one of the things that connects us as neighbors—in our own way, each one of us is a giver and a receiver.” - Fred Rogers

Blackpool, England, the home of South Shore Football Club, was once a thriving seaside resort revered by the Victorians. However, the town has suffered in recent decades due to rising poverty. While efforts are underway to help the town through revitalization stimulus, we want to help make our own impact by resurrecting one of Blackpool's first-ever soccer clubs and using it as a vehicle to help restore the town to its former glory.

Metropolis, Illinois, home of the Metropolis Metros, is perhaps best known as the official home of Superman with its giant bronze statue in the town square. However, it is a close-knit, blue-collar community that hugs the Illinois-Kentucky border. Also dealing with issues such as drug use and poverty, Metropolis has never had a professional sports franchise. Our founding of a soccer team in the towns aims to give back to a hard-working community, and help put Metropolis back on the map.

With both teams playing in the heart of their respective grassroots soccer systems, we have to place both clubs at the heart of their communities. South Shore will play their matches at Blackpool & The Fylde College, a local community college that has done wonders for helping develop young people with the skills they will need for their professional lives.

Metropolis Metros will play at the City Playing Fields before moving to the facilities at Massac County High School in 2023.

Community is the ideology that drives this venture.

We want to be a position to help our local communities through collaboration and funding of local initiatives. However, we also want to be seen as something positive in the community, a place people know they can trust and turn to.

But we also accept the rapid digitalization of the world. We don't simply see Blackpool and Metropolis as our community. We consider anyone anywhere in the world who finds themselves at our doorstep (tangible or otherwise) to be a part of the South Shore family.

This can be seen in our embrace of novel platforms, especially for a soccer club, such as livestreaming on Twitch and the creation of a Discord server.

Twitch Stream - South Shore Football Club

We truly want to be a place where all feel welcome, not just soccer fans.

In terms of revenue generation, we are eager to embrace a hybrid of traditional and novel revenue streams.

Traditional revenue streams such as ticket sales, merchandise revenue, and commercial sponsors are all things that any soccer club would be foolish to go without.

However, we believe that we can field a competitive advantage by tapping into revenue streams often neglected by traditional sports ventures. Namely, the use of online revenue from platforms such as Twitch and YouTube, where we will also embrace to incorporate non-soccer fans, especially on Twitch, with a variety of content that won't also be soccer-fan centric.

While Metropolis Metros enter a fairly open market, South Shore FC will enter a strongly saturated soccer in the Blackpool area.

However, our goal is to develop long-term relationships with our fans/consumers in order to highlight why we are the team worth investing in compared to our local competitors. This will be supplemented by the aforementioned focus on online community cultivation, as we remove any perceived obstacle that only locals can support our clubs. This will go as far as streaming games, meaning the Metros and South Shore can be watched from anywhere in the world.

We have worked on identifying our position within an ever-expanding Soccer market, we have understood who our fans will be, our regional competition and what we need to achieve in order to be self sustaining whilst building our guardianship of both clubs.

In order to execute this venture, we put together a team of passionate soccer fans and sports experts.

Club Chairman and company CEO Jason Allen is a financial expert with a decade of experience working with some of the biggest names in the financial sector. Media Director Benjamin Mock is a former sportswriter whose speciality is uncovering the untold stories of sports. Personnel Director James Radcliffe has spent time as a scout with second division teams in the UK and has intimate knowledge of how to run a soccer organization.

South Shore's financial plan is to develop a long-term, sustainable stream of revenue over the next 3-5 years, developing a successful on-field outfit while supplementing the income with expanded digital streams.

But the question remains, why should you invest in South Shore?

To us, the answer is simple. The world has lost its sense of community. Towns are left by the wayside as money is pumped into the big cities. Whole communities are left behind.

We want to bring that sense of community back. Whether you live in Blackpool, Metropolis, or Timbuktu, you are part of the global community.

By investing in South Shore, you are investing in an organization that aims to become a household name in the world of soccer, and a name synonymous with making the world a better place.

We aim to develop ourselves into an organization that in a few years will be returning on your investment financially. But much more than that, will be returning on your investment by making the world a better place.
