Our Story

As a former educator and consultant for various professional relaxer, color, and keratin brands I started SilkOut System to help meet the needs of my diverse clients with textured hair. We offer them the latest in the advanced technology in professional smoothing treatment which offers safer, plant and botanical based ingredients designed to nourish textured hair.

Women of color with textured hair traditionally straighten their hair with products that contain harsh chemicals, can leave their hair with damage, and doesn't give them an option to have much versatility. In addition to containing chemicals associated with increased risk in cancer. Keratin treatments came along and although least chemically evasive they also didn't offer the level of nourishment that textured hair needed and many of them contained ingredients known to be toxic for stylists and consumers.

In the past 10+ years many women with curly to coily textures have embraced their natural texture but there are still many of them that would like to have a healthier option to help reduce shrinkage, knotting and tangling, reduce curl pattern safely from 10-60% without damage, or straighten hair up to 80% for the manageability of a relaxer with the chemicals and damage. How?

The science behind our treatment works to rearrange the bonds of the hair without destroying them and strengthens the bonds at the level it was reduced at to reinforce each strand and keep them healthy.


In 2017 I launched the system with the Taming Treatment as the flagship product of the brand available only to our B2B audience comprised of licensed stylists. Our maintenance and hair care line is available for our B2C audience via our retail website and for purchase from our stylist. The treatment is created with plant based protein (sugar cane cysteine) that allows for a stylist to offer a variety of straightening, curl enhancing, and repair damaged hair all with the techniques I have created and train stylists to use within this one system. This empowers salon professionals to offer advance salon care for textured hair clients.

I started the company with less than $5,000 from donations and doing gig work like rideshare. In 2020, we began to see growth in our company and had our first $500k year in gross sales and in 2021 we hit our first $1 million in gross sales which were predominantly from the B2C side of our business with our total gross sales at $2.4 million. That's small in comparison but shows the room for growth in the $10.2 billion Black Hair Care market and $2.5 billion keratin and hair straightening market.

We encountered some setbacks in the inventory chain in 2022 as we noticed a few of our manufactures were increasing their MOQ for smaller companies like myself and not making our orders a priority which has caused a decline in sales due to inventory delays. To push past this problem, we decided it was time to raise capital and move beyond the bootstrap. We're doing this so that we can get the best pricing by meeting the MOQ necessary to increase our profit margins and production positioning and help us keep our current customers happy and regain our momentum. Success loves speed and we understand that it takes money to create the velocity we need for growth.

We plan to use the money to purchase inventory and to invest in branding and marketing services. We plan to enhance our presence on and offline to acquire more salons and independent stylists to educate and spread the message on how beneficial our products are. We aim to hit new targets by growing both the B2C but with a focus on the B2B as the demand for the salon services has increased and we need more stylists certified to use our system so that more women with textured hair can experience the results.
