A revolution is coming to running & cycling

Minimis is building Flow AR, augmented reality sunglasses for runners and cyclists that seamlessly combine the features of a smartwatch, performance tracker, and phone, minimizing disruption while active. With 91K+ email list subscribers, $100K committed in preorders, we're bringing Flow AR to market in Q4 2026.

How it started

It was while running a half-marathon in 2019 that the idea for Flow AR first came to our Founder, Joseph Guo. His repeated glances down at his phone- to check the time, his heart rate, and progress- were disrupting his focus on the path ahead. The same thing happened while on a bicycle ride: a brief glance down at the phone for directions almost resulted in a car accident.

Minimis Flow AR solves this problem by integrating your physical performance data into your field of vision- keeping you informed and focused at the same time. From the outside, Flow AR looks like a regular pair of sports sunglasses. Internally, Flow AR runs on a custom version of Android 12 built for athletes; integrating the functions of a smartwatch, bike computer (like a Garmin), as well as a phone in one piece of gear.

The glasses themselves are lightweight and require no additional hardware to work. They feature a crisp visual display, easy to use interface, and long lasting battery.

Most athletes use some form of digital performance tools to track real-time performance data, including pace, distance, heart rate, and navigation. The vast majority of these tools are only accessible by phone or smartwatch. When physically active, tapping into these necessitates a temporary lapse in focus from the task at hand.

This can look like runners lifting their arms mid-stride to check their watch, twisting slightly to read the screen, or cyclists glancing down at their handlebars below their sightline to check their phone or Garmin GPS system.

These tiny disruptions may seem minimal, but they can have an outsize effect on safety, convenience and performance. Some of the negative effects of the current performance data gear landscape include:

  1. Dangerous blind spots: At 15 mph, a two-second glance means traveling nearly 46 feet without watching where you're going
  2. Broken flow state: Checking devices mid-stride or mid-pedal disrupts running form, cycling cadence, and mental focus
  3. Device overload: Athletes carry separate watches, bike computers, phones, sunglasses, and heart rate monitors, each requiring charging and management
  4. Awkward access: Information lives on your wrist, handlebars, or in your pocket rather than where your attention naturally needs to be- straight ahead.
  5. Trade-off mentality: Current tools force athletes to choose between getting performance data and staying fully focused on the path forward.

None of the current athletic performance data devices or apps were designed to integrate seamlessly with athletic movement, requiring an athlete to adopt an additional movement and level of focus to access the information.

Our unique standalone solution

Flow AR offers a unique value proposition giving athletes access to multiple sources of data in a single, integrated, wearable device to minimize focus disruption while active.

Flow AR puts performance data directly in an athlete’s peripheral vision through standalone augmented reality sunglasses that allow them to unlock their performance data, navigation, pace, heart rate, and more when they need it, without moving their head, lifting their wrist, or taking their eyes off the road ahead. The glasses look and feel like regular sports sunglasses but contain a full Android 12 system that handles everything from GPS tracking to music streaming.

  1. Heads-up display: 1920x1080 full HD color microdisplay delivers clear, readable information in your peripheral vision, working in bright sunlight and at night.
  2. Complete sensor integration: ANT+ pairing works with existing heart rate monitors and cycling power meters. Direct Strava uploads sync workout data automatically. Garmin Varia integration adds radar detection for cycling safety.
  3. Athletic design: Lightweight frames comparable to regular sports sunglasses. Transition lenses adjust to changing light conditions. Anti-fog coating keeps lenses clear during hard efforts.
  4. Simple controls: Touch joystick controls on the temple handle basic functions. Voice commands enable hands-free operation. The interface adapts based on your activity to show relevant metrics for running or cycling.
  5. High-performance hardware: 4GB RAM and an octa-core processor handle multiple functions simultaneously without lag or delay.
  6. Device consolidation: Replaces running watches, bike computers, phones, sunglasses, and heart rate monitors in a single device that weighs marginally heavier than regular athletic eyewear.

Flow AR is designed to integrate with most training regimens. The glasses work with existing training apps and platforms, sync with popular services, and fit into established athletic routines without requiring adjustment.

A massive, growing market

The wearable tech market for endurance athletes is already large and growing.

  1. Estimated global spend on running watches: $13.3 billion
  2. Sports sunglasses: $6.3 billion
  3. Bike computers: $750 million
  4. Total combined addressable market: $20 billion+ annually

Flow AR offers a unique value prop- giving athletes access to multiple sources of data in a single, integrated, wearable device to minimize focus disruption while active.

Our initial geographic market focus is in the U.S., Australia, and Europe. These regions represent 60 percent of global endurance gear spending.

We have early validation of the product and have begun securing initial partnerships with distributors. We have been featured in over 40 media outlets across Australia, Canada, and the USA, including publications such as NewAtlas, GrumpyFoot, and Trendhunter. As we approach market launch, we aim to continue building awareness of our brand.

  1. $100,000 in paid pre-orders through our Kickstarter and Indiegogo campaigns
  2. An email list of more than 91,000 people
  3. Incubated by Founders Inc, NVIDIA Inception and CSIRO (Australian National Science Agency)
  4. Covered by 40+ media outlets (like: NewAtlas, GrumpyFoot, Trendhunter) and audience favourite at Startup World Cup Australia
  5. Featured on Season 14 of The Pitch Show

Minimis generates revenue from hardware sales and accessories. The core product is priced competitively while maintaining strong margins.

  1. Flow AR sells for $699 through direct and retailer channels
  2. Accessories like charging cases and prescription inserts offer higher margins
  3. We are exploring a battery extension strap, targeting 2027, which may generate additional revenue if developed and launched successfully.
  4. Platform-based design allows for efficient development of Flow AR 2 and variants
  5. Sports-specific versions in planning: Golf AR, Swim AR, Snow AR
  6. Exploring optional software subscriptions for advanced personalized analytics and coaching

The capital raised in this round supports our transition from prototype to production. Key priorities are tied to engineering, launch readiness, and go-to-market execution.
