Own the Music. Empower the Artists. Share the Success.

The first fan-funded, investor-driven record label where music lovers become stakeholders in the artists they believe in.

Label 51 Recordings is rewriting the rules of the music industry. We're a fan-owned record label championing alternative artists who deserve to be heard, from Paisley Underground legends to emerging indie voices. Unlike major labels and apps that extract value, we share it: artists keep creative control with a transparent 50/50 split (no shady accounting), and fans become equity stakeholders who participate in the label's growth. When our artists succeed, so do you.

This is more than investing; you’re joining a community

Reasons to Invest / Key Metrics

Why Label 51? Why Now?

  1. True Fan Ownership Model: First investor-driven label: real equity, unique perks, cool opportunities, beyond tokens/discounts.
  2. Fair Artist Deal: Transparent 50/50 revenue split with no predatory accounting.
  3. Artists retain creative control while Label 51Recordings handles production, distribution, marketing, and retail strategy
  4. Proven Market Traction: 6 charting titles on Record Store Day 2025,
  5. growing direct-to-consumer sales, expanding retail distribution, and a roster of cult-favorite and legendary alternative artists, like Rain Parade and Deep Blue Something.
  6. Diverse Revenue Streams: Income from streaming, physical sales (vinyl/CD), licensing, merchandise, and live event partnerships—not dependent on a single format or platform
  7. Underserved Alternative Market: Alternative, indie, and experimental genres have devoted fanbases but lack label infrastructure that respects artistic vision. We fill that gap
  8. Industry Veteran Leadership: Co-founders Andy Zicklin (finance/music entrepreneur) and Bill Hein (record label executive) bring decades of combined expertise in music, technology, and business operations

Cultural Momentum: Independent music consumption is growing, vinyl sales continue rising, and increased fan base.

The Problem

The Music Industry Is Broken, For Artists AND Fans

The traditional record label system extracts maximum value while giving minimum control. Artists sign away rights, accept unfavorable splits, and navigate opaque accounting that keeps them perpetually in debt to their labels. Even successful artists rarely see fair compensation.

Meanwhile, fans, the people who stream, buy, and evangelize the music, are completely excluded from participating in an artist's financial success. They pay for albums and concert tickets, but have no stake in the upside they help create.

Major labels control the industry through size, not service. Independent artists struggle to access distribution, marketing, and production resources. Alternative and experimental artists, who often have the most devoted fanbases, are underserved or ignored entirely.

The result? Artists compromise their vision or remain underground. Fans feel disconnected. And some of the most vital music never reaches its full audience.

Our Solution

Alignment Through Ownership

Label 51 Recordings changes the equation by breaking down the wall between fans and artists. We want the artists to know their fans, and the fans to know the artists.

How It Works:

For Artists: We offer a transparent 50/50 revenue split. No hidden recoupment schemes or creative accounting. Artists retain ownership of their masters and creative control. Label 51 Recordings provides production, distribution (physical and digital), marketing, retail strategy, and direct-to-consumer infrastructure. Artists get professional support without surrendering their art.

For Fans/Investors: By investing in Label 51 Recordings, you become an equity stakeholder in the label itself. As our artist roster grows and generates revenue across streaming, sales, licensing, and merchandise, the label's value increases, and so does yours. You also gain access to exclusive perks: early releases, limited editions, meet-and-greets, behind-the-scenes content, and special opportunities to engage directly with artists.

For the Music: As we build out this platform, artists and their fans/investors will both succeed in ways that weren't possible before. And we create a sustainable model where great music, devoted fans, and fair business practices coexist.

Business Model

How Label 51 Recordings Generates Revenue, and How Investors Participate

Label 51 Recordings operates as a modern, multi-channel record label with transparent economics and shared upside.

Primary Revenue Sources:

  1. Physical Sales: Vinyl, CD, and cassette sales through direct-to-consumer (D2C) channels and retail partnerships, pressed at our pressing partner, Pressing Business.
  2. Licensing: Sync licensing for film, TV, advertising, and games; mechanical royalties; performance rights administered through our publishing company, Flatiron 51 Music Publishing, and Wixen.
  3. Merchandise: Artist-branded apparel and products sold directly and through partnerships
  4. Live Events: Revenue participation from touring, festival appearances, and sponsored events, where applicable
  5. Streaming: For most artists, streaming costs more money than they make. But we believe it can be helpful for discovery and promotion.
  6. Press on Demand: We'll give artists the chance to crowdfund and create pre-orders before they are pressing, while they won't be full label acts, we will use our label promotion to help garner support for these artists.

Revenue Distribution:

  1. 50% to artists (transparent, no recoupment gimmicks)
  2. 50% to Label 51 Recordings (covers operations, production, marketing, and investor returns)

Investor Participation:

Investors receive equity in Label 51 Recordings. As the label grows its roster, releases more titles, and scales its D2C and retail distribution, the company's value increases. Returns come from:

Studio Visits and Listening Parties may expose you to unreleased music. You agree not to record, stream, or leak any audio or video. You may be required to sign a standard Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) or secure your phone during sensitive sessions.

4) House Shows

For the "Private House Show" reward:

  1. The venue (your home/yard) must be safe and suitable for a performance.
  2. Location must be within 100 miles of the artist's home or scheduled tour dates.
  3. The label reserves the right to decline any venue deemed unsafe or logistically impossible

Scalability:

Each new artist signing adds to our catalog value. Streaming income compounds over time. Physical products enjoy higher margins than digital ones. Every release strengthens our brand, builds our fan community, and creates opportunities for the next artist. This is a flywheel business model—momentum builds with each success.

Acknowledged Risk:

Returns depend on artist performance, audience growth, and market conditions. The music industry involves inherent creative and commercial uncertainty. Label 51 Recordings mitigates this through artist diversification, experienced management, and proven demand for our genre focus.

Market Opportunity

The Independent Music Economy Is Growing. How about making it inclusive?

The recorded music industry is experiencing a sustained resurgence. According to the RIAA, U.S. recorded music revenues reached $17.1 billion in 2023, with continued growth projected through 2028. Streaming remains dominant, but physical formats, especially vinyl, are in a multi-year renaissance with over $1.4 billion in sales in 2023.

Key Trends Favoring Label 51 Recordings:

  1. Independent Label Growth: Indie labels now account for over 40% of global market share, up from 30% a decade ago. Artists and listeners increasingly reject major label homogeneity in favor of authentic, artist-driven music.
  2. Vinyl Resurgence: Vinyl sales have grown for 17 consecutive years. Alternative and indie genres drive disproportionate vinyl demand, with Record Store Day becoming a cultural phenomenon. Label 51 Recordings's six charting titles on RSD 2025 demonstrate our ability to succeed in this space.
  3. Creator Economy Boom: Fans now expect direct relationships with creators and opportunities to participate financially. Platforms like Patreon, Kickstarter, and Bandcamp prove that audiences will support artists—but they don't offer true ownership stakes. Label 51 Recordings does.
  4. Alternative Music's Devoted Fanbase: Alternative, post-punk, psychedelic, and experimental genres have intensely loyal audiences who buy physical media, attend shows, and evangelize music. These fans are underserved by major labels and hungry for a model that respects their role in an artist's success.

Label 51 Recordings is positioned at the intersection of these trends: a fan-owned label focused on alternative genres, with strong physical distribution, D2C capabilities, and a transparent equity model that gives stakeholders ownership.
