Our Team

I've worked in financial inclusion and fintech in Africa for the past 20 years. Fintech, digital health and online education are solutions that bring products and service to underserved markets in Africa, but people can only access them when they have smartphones, and when they have the data they need to use them.

Pitch

In one of the largest markets in the world, only 30% of the population has a smartphones. That same market has the highest cryptocurrency adoption rate in the world. It's the largest mobile money market in the world. And it has a movie industry that is larger than Hollywood.

That market is Africa, where the majority of people get online with smartphones. There's a huge opportunity in that market if we can grow smartphone ownership.

Smartphones are also a huge opportunity to grow individuals disposable incomes. In fact, in Africa, owning a smartphone is proven to increase a families income by 24%.

For the world’s marginalized women, a mobile phone doesn’t just make their life more convenient; it can help them build an entirely new life. How? Connectivity is the solution to marginalization. For a woman who has never stepped into a bank, mobile banking offers a foothold in the formal economy and a chance at financial independence. The income potential for a woman expected to do all the cooking, cleaning, and child-rearing, improves dramatically with opportunities to connect with customers, trainings, and professional organizations—all within the home setting. If worried about the stigma encountered when asking for contraceptives at a local clinic, an e-commerce delivery platform can help a woman obtain control over her body and her future.

In other words, women are not only using their mobile phones to access services and opportunities. They’re also using them to change social norms and challenge the power structures that perpetuate gender inequality.

60% of the 800 million people offline in Africa are under the age of 25.

KEIPhone is the platform that could provide access to and for all of these new, young, online consumers!

Being offline isn't just a challenge for consumers, it's a challenge for the businesses that want to reach them.  Traditional targeted advertising isn't possible because so many consumers are offline.  KEIPhone provides an opportunity for companies to directly target their users.  We can target based on gender, age, geography and profession.  In the long term we will include AI to develop even more sophisticated targeting.

We are already partnering with some of the largest brands in the market, including Chipper Cash, MTN, Airtel, Standard Bank, Opportunity Bank, Sound Cloud and CARE.

We generate our revenue through Lockscreen advertising. And we use data for targeted ads.

These can be both banner ads or embedded videos.  Our ads are rewarded, and users earn credits that they can redeem for data and content.

Lockscreen ads aren't new. I can order a Kindle on Amazon today at a discount if I take lockscreen ads. And in India over 400 million phone owners have lockscreen ads on their phones.

Our customers love us!

We've only launched in Uganda to date, but every day we receive e-mails or Google Playstore reviews asking us to come to new countries, including Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal and others through Africa.

In February we launched the ReferAFriend promotion for downloads , and we saw our numbers grow exponentially, getting to the point where we were doubling users weekly.

That large and growing user base is extremely appealing to our advertisers. Lockscreens can provide an uncluttered moment of connection on a screen most of us see dozens of times a day.

Lockscreen ads are just the tip of the iceberg for us.  as customer loyalty and engagement grows, we plan to expand to include a Marketplace, mobile money and social content.

In fact, we've just launched the beta version of our marketplace.  It's being tested by 100 of our super users.  The marketplace deepens user engagement by allowing them to use their points for a variety of products and services, beyond just mobile top-up.

With partners from the entertainment, banking, fintech, agriculture and CG sectors we will soon be generating revenue of $10,000 per month, with a target to get to $2 per user per month.

We’ll reach 500,000 users by the end of this year and over a million in 2023. We’ll be generating $2 million a month in revenue, and we’ll still be reaching less than 1% of the total available market.

At KEIPhone we are the team to reach millions.
