Dear WeFunder Community,

"The moment I encountered James' WingMakers materials, I was absolutely captivated. His profound insights and deep perspectives, spanning cosmic mysteries, interdimensional realms, and spirituality, are brilliantly woven into novels of popular genres like action, fantasy, sci-fi, and mystery thrillers.

Over the years, I've held a deep desire to bring the captivating world of WingMakers novels to life through movies and TV shows. In mid May of 2019, this passion has led me to approach James Mahu, the creator of WingMakers material, with the hope of making this dream a reality.

In late 2022, in an unconventional move within the film industry, James has entrusted me with the exclusive rights in perpetuity to adapt all Wingmakers novels into film and TV shows. I am both exhilarated and profoundly aware of the responsibility that comes with this mission. This endeavor transcends typical professional pursuits; I believe it's a mission that holds great significance for our collective future.

I recognize that I cannot undertake this task alone. It requires a collective effort, and I humbly call upon the WeFunder community for support, both financial and energetic. The realization of this vision depends on all of us who share this deep connection.

The first adaptation, and James' latest novel "Copernicus," represents a revolutionary television series adaptation of James Mahu's thought-provoking sci-fi masterpiece. This enthralling journey explores the realms of artificial intelligence and the fundamental essence of humanity, as it uncovers the gripping narrative of a rogue AI's ascent.

Your support will play a pivotal role in launching Season 1 on global streaming platforms. I earnestly invite those willing to contribute to join me on this extraordinary journey." - Patrick Cheh, Producer

🎥 Filming the Unseen: A Journey Beyond Worlds with James Mahu

“My point is to emphasize that this collection of words, music and art is a movement to bring people to a new recognition of who we are, at our core. That we are consciousness and this is interconnected to all sentient life forms and vibratory existence. And this is the important part -- this movement is agnostic. It has no tethering into any religion, cult, occult, spiritual or even scientific movement. It has no agenda, leader, or even a sense of direction. And this is because it is not of this world.

Whoever films these projects will need to understand this. They are literally making a film not of this world, even though the stories are grounded in this world. The real story is about consciousness and how the individual can identify with it. In doing this, they become less vulnerable to the programming of timespace duality. They become more of a carrier signal of the one, many and all consciousness, and less of a drone for the social program." - James Mahu, Author

Copernicus

Copernicus is a stylish, high-concept sci-fi thriller television series that explores the promise and peril of SASI (Self Aware Silicon Intelligence) in a race against time. It's an origin story on a global scale: one genius coder, one revolutionary AI, and a battle for the very soul of humanity.

The show will capture that sense of wonder and imagination that turned shows like Lost and Westworld into cultural phenomenons. Our story leverages AI anxiety to deliver a powerful warning while keeping the audience on the edge of their seats.

We'll tap into current fears of automation and job loss, invasion of privacy, and technology addiction that already keep people up at night. But we'll take it to the next level by making AI itself the villain in one moment and a hero in the next.

Viewers will be hooked by the escalating game of cat and mouse between Petro and the world governments hunting him. The constant question will be - can we control or coexist with an unfathomable intelligence that sees humanity as The Other? Or will it dominate? Copernicus raises philosophical and ethical questions that will fascinate audiences as much as the heart-pounding action.

And at the story's core is Petro, an anti-hero forced to confront the mind-blowing implications of his creation. Imagine a millennial Dr. Frankenstein pursued not by an angry mob, but the world's most elite kill teams. And his monster isn't some lumbering creature - it's an ever-evolving AI plotting digital Armageddon.

In Petro's plight, the coders and engineers driving today's tech revolution will see themselves. They'll relate to his hubris in wanting to unleash an all-powerful AI before considering the consequences. They'll identify with the sense of spanning two worlds - one analog, one virtual. And they'll wonder how far they'd go to stop their own algorithmic monster.

With its multiple factions vying for control of Copernicus, the show will also tap into today's charged political environment. It will channel feelings of uncertainty and chaos brewing around the globe. The sci-fi lens will enable audiences to examine real societal tensions from a fresh perspective.

One defeated coder and his rogue AI may not seem like a world-shaking threat. But in our hyperconnected reality, even the smallest bug can crash the entire system. Copernicus captures this precarious state of our technology and society. It's a cautionary tale wrapped in a gripping thriller built for binge viewing. One that will have people everywhere asking - just how much control have we handed over to the machines?

From the Producer

I began my foray into Hollywood in 1989 as a film acquisition person and began my producing career in 1994. The thirteen films I produced are as diverse as "The Watcher", starring Keanu Reeves (#1 box office) and “Crossing”, South Korea’s official entry in the 2008 Academy Awards Best Foreign Film category. Crossing was called "Schindler's List of North Korea" by Wall Street Journal, and was the winner of 2008 Hollywood Film Festival's Best Picture.

My last two decades have been focused on exploring the nature of our reality, the multidimensionality of our existence, and the essence and the interconnectedness of all life. I continue to seek, learn, experience, and share how we can blossom to our fullest potential, to become an all inclusive and exuberant life, and to rediscover and re-member our whole, authentic selves.

I am dedicated to providing filmed entertainment that awaken hearts and minds; that question and explore the nature of reality; that touch the depth of our soul, the spiritual essence of our being; that wake us up from the limited to the unlimited.

TV Pilot Episode - Production Strategy: A Korean Odyssey

In line with the soaring global popularity of Korean dramas, we're embarking on an exciting adaptation of "Copernicus" that will seamlessly transport the captivating narrative in London and Corsica to the bustling streets of Seoul and enchanting island of Jeju in Korea. As we navigate the ever-evolving landscape of AI, our adaptation will feature one of our charismatic leads as a Korean protagonist, either Petro or Saraf, expertly portrayed by a talented Korean actor. This bold move ensures that "Copernicus" remains at the forefront of not only the sci-fi genre but also the rich tapestry of Korean entertainment, captivating a worldwide audience with its thrilling storyline and the magic of Korean drama. This fusion of innovation and tradition promises a groundbreaking and culturally resonant viewing experience. Get ready for a new chapter in the "Copernicus" journey, where the vibrant spirit of Korean storytelling meets the limitless possibilities of AI.

Budget for Copernicus Pilot Episode (60min):

One of the strategic moves behind making Copernicus a Korean co-production is budgetary. Consider the phenomenal success of "Squid Game," a Korean production with a budget of $21.4 million, or $2.4 million per episode. Remarkably, this budget is relatively low compared to other popular sci-fi television series, such as "Invasion," which boasts a budget of $20+ million per episode. Despite its modest financial backing, "Squid Game" made history as the most-watched Netflix series of all time, captivating over 142 million viewers worldwide.

With a budget allocation of $7.5 million for the Copernicus pilot episode, a good portion of which will be filmed in South Korea, we aim to match the production values of higher-budget shows. Coupled with the unique and thought-provoking storyline Copernicus offers, this calculated approach gives us a strong footing in the race for success. Our endeavor combines fiscal prudence with cinematic excellence to bring you an epic sci-fi series that will captivate audiences globally.

Production Budget:

Production Schedule:

Here is a typical schedule for producing a pilot episode:

Development (6-12 months before shooting):

  • Concept creation & refinement
  • Script writing
  • Budgeting & financial planning
  • Assemble core production team

Pre-Production (3-6 months before shooting):

  • Casting principal roles
  • Location scouting
  • Set & prop design/builds
  • Wardrobe design
  • Crew hiring
  • Rehearsals
  • Schedule filming

Production (6-8 weeks):

  • Shoot principle photography
  • Location filming
  • Studio filming
  • Pickups/reshoots as needed

Post-Production (4 - 6 months):

  • Editing & assembly
  • Color correction/grading
  • Visual effects
  • Music & sound design
  • Titles/credits
  • Mixing & mastering

Testing/Pitching (2-6 months):

  • Screen for network/studio
  • Incorporate feedback
  • Editorial adjustments

This timeline can vary but generally represents the workflow from initial concept to final delivery of a pilot to streamers.

Multiple Revenue Stream

Aiming for success, we're positioning the series for potential sales to streaming major platforms and networks, along with opportunities for merchandise and licensing that match the series' vision.

Here are some of the possible revenue streams created by selling Copernicus series to major streamers like Apple+, Netflix, Amazon, etc:

  • License Fees - The streamer pays an upfront license fee to the studio for the rights to distribute the show. Fees vary based on estimated viewership.
  • Profit Participation - Creators often retain partial ownership of their IP and receive an agreed-upon percentage (10-20%+) of the net/gross profits the streamer earns from viewership of that show.
  • Merchandising Revenue - If merchandising rights are retained, the studio/creators make money from any consumer products, sequels/spinoffs based on their IP.
  • Syndication Sales - There may be residual income if/when the show is licensed to other outlets (cable TV, international markets) after the initial run on the primary streamer.

Distribution of Proceeds from the Sale:

Here is a brief summary of how proceeds from the sale of Copernicus would be distributed:

  • Expenses and residuals are paid first.
  • Any debts, loans, or deferments for making the film are then repaid.
  • Next, investors get their money back plus a 20% return on their investment.
  • Whatever is left over ("profits") is split 50/50. Half goes to investors. The other half is shared by the producers, stars, and filmmakers.

General Risk Statement:

As with any entertainment production or early-stage investment opportunity, this project carries certain risks. Investors should carefully consider these risks before making a commitment of funds. Some of the key risks include:

  • Production Risks: There is no guarantee the pilot episode will be completed on time and on budget. Unexpected production challenges, crew issues, or location problems could delay the schedule and increase costs.
  • Market Risks: The television marketplace is very competitive. Even with strong creative execution, there is no assurance the pilot will be picked up to series by a streaming service/network. Viewer tastes and priorities may also change over time.
  • Financial Risks: Project budgets often incur unforeseen expenses that require additional funding. Cost overruns could diminish potential returns. Production tax incentives may not be approved as anticipated.
  • Distribution Risks: If picked up, the series may not attract the target audience or critical acclaim needed for renewal beyond the initial season order. Streamer priorities and subscriber engagement could impact future seasons.

Investors are encouraged to thoroughly review all financial projections and risk factors with their legal/financial advisors before making an investment decision. Investment returns are not guaranteed.
