Formula One's answer to the Ballon d'Or

Film has the Oscars.

Food has the Michelin stars.

Football has the Ballon d’Or.

And Formula One?

No iconic award beyond the World Championship.

Introducing

Le Casque d’Or — The Golden Helmet

A new, independent Formula One award.

Expert-guided. Fan-voted. And long overdue.

Created to honour the driver who defined the season — not necessarily the one who scored the most points.

In its 75-year history, Formula One has crowned 35 World Champions.

From Giuseppe Farina to Lando Norris. With legendary seven-time world champions Schumacher and Hamilton in between.

Different eras. Different cars, but driven by one common desire.

To be the best.

But championship points don’t always tell the whole story.

Le Casque d’Or exists to recognise the driver who captured the imagination of the sport that year — regardless of championship standings.

Drivers like Stirling Moss or Gilles Villeneuve would have been perfect recipients of the 'Golden Helmet'.

Why Now?

Formula One is growing faster than ever.

Netflix’s Drive to Survive introduced a new generation to the sport.

F1® The Movie brought Formula One to an even broader global audience.

With more Grands Prix — and more races in the United States than ever before — Miami, Austin, and Las Vegas have become fixtures.

And Apple will broadcast Formula One exclusively in the U.S. under a new multi-year agreement.

Millions of new fans are discovering not just the races, but the rivalries, the stories and the debates that stretch back decades.

Le Casque d’Or exists to connect those generations. It gives new fans a way in - and lifelong fans a reason to argue all over again.

Not just who won. But who defined a season. Who will still be talked about in 25 years’ time.

Royal Automobile Club - Pall Mall, London.

Le Casque d’Or deserves a proper launch.

A one-night inaugural event — in a room filled with history, opinion, and passion — centred on the question that has engrossed Formula One fans forever:

Who is the Greatest of All Time?

All 35 World Champions — and a select few who never won the title — will be debated across three rounds throughout 2026:

1) Top 20

2) Top 10

3) Top 5

Down to the eventual winner.

It all begins at the inaugural event at the RAC Club.

Grand Épreuve

Alongside the award, we publish Grand Épreuve — our premium, coffee-table magazine.

In an era of endless digital noise, Grand Épreuve is intentionally physical.

Heavy paper. Minimal copy.

Photography that lets Formula One breathe.

Goodbye clickbait.

Hello print.

Each issue is designed to be a collector’s item and is included with annual Membership*.

Use of Funds

100% of this Wefunder raise is dedicated to making the inaugural year exceptional:

  1. Production of the first 'Casque d'Or' award
  2. Development of the Casque d’Or website and voting platform
  3. Production of the Grand Épreuve — Greatest of All Time edition
  4. Hosting the Royal Automobile Club launch evening

Building something worthy of Formula One’s history.

Built by fans. For fans.

We want Le Casque d’Or to belong to the people who love this sport. So that years from now when this award still exists you can say:

"I was a part of this"

To preserve the exclusivity of the inaugural year, we are limiting this raise to a maximum of 1,000 founding supporters.

$100 — Founding Member

  1. Limited Edition premium baseball cap
  2. Founding Membership Card
  3. Grand Épreuve Volumes  1 + 2
  4. Bragging rights - your name listed on the official Casque d’Or website

Everything above, plus:

  1. Ticket to the inaugural Royal Automobile Club evening (London)
  2. VIP bragging rights - Your name printed in the next issue of Grand Épreuve

*Limited to 100

One opportunity

This is the only moment in history when we can launch a 75-year retrospective and begin a 25-year tradition.

One hundred tickets

One historic night.

You’ll be able to say you were there when it started.

Founder's story

Born in the Netherlands in the swinging sixties. From a young age, I had a fascination with cars and motorsport.

I moved to the UK in my early 20's to chase my dream of reaching Formula One - racing single-seaters and crossing paths with future World Champions like Damon Hill and Mika Hakkinen.

(For the record I didn't make it to Formula One.)

No regrets though. It scratched my competitive itch.

Since then, I’ve been on an entrepreneurial journey — from publishing F1 Racing magazine in Australia to building OSCAR, Australia's highest-rated shave brand.

Casque d’Or is my contribution to an incredible sport that I have enjoyed so much over decades.

I look forward to welcoming you as a Founding Member.
