if the drug already exists for another indication and is, perhaps, generic, why should a physician prescribe your brand name drug instead of the same chemical under its pre-existing name?

Good question.  The active drug in WST-057 was never approved in the US (and thus not a generic in the US) but approved in other countries as a pill. It has however been shown to be very safe over the decades of use - which is why we chose this drug - "to take safety concerns off the table". We would love to be able to get everyone in our clinical trial - we too are impatient for a therapy.  We are doing everything we can to accelerate approval, including running as many trials as we can to speed up the process. if the drug has been approved in other countries for some other use, why was it never approved for that use in the u.s.?

It was not very effective for its original indication, peptic ulcers.  And not that long after, all the other ulcer drugs came out on the market (Nexium, Prilosec, etc.) - which were very effective.  The originating company abandoned the product for marketing purposes.  But over the last several decades, it has proven out to be safe without the long term concerns now surfacing with other drugs.

We will be recruiting for our study in Canada soon. Our goal is to begin trials in the United States within a year, with the main objective to start a large pivotal study soon thereafter.
