I thought this would be a good moment to share more about our origin story. 

HCO’s journey didn’t begin in a lab or a hospital. It started in a manufacturing facility where I was the only woman among 250 men, in a corporation of over 5,000 employees. I built a successful career by working hard and showing up every day. I broke several glass ceilings, became the first female subsidiary head, led $150M in capital projects, commercialized two new technologies, built two factories, and upgraded another.

I had success, recognition, and financial security. But my life was largely unexamined — until it wasn’t.

In 2009, everything shifted. My father died suddenly. I had done everything I could to give my parents the best of everything, but all the money in the world couldn’t stop what happened that day. His death was a wake-up call. It forced me to stop and ask: What impact do I want to make?

So, I walked away from it all. I took some time to figure it out while getting a Masters’ degree. That’s when I found myself in the world of sustainability, commercializing the only technology in the world that deconstructs biomass (yes, that’s a thing!). And then came HCO.

HCO is much more than a company to me. It’s about impact and personal mission born out of my own lived experience with asthma. I’ve battled asthma since childhood, enduring five near-fatal attacks. The fear, the anxiety, the helplessness — I know those feelings intimately. That’s why I started HCO: so no one ever has to die from an asthma or COPD attack — or live in fear of one — again.

Today, Health Care Originals exists to help people with asthma and COPD breathe easier. Our technology gives people the preventative tools I never had growing up. 

We’ve reached product-market fit, are generating revenue, and have high profile partnerships with organizations like the Asthma & Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA).
