Let’s give a huge Legion M welcome to Michael Boulware Moore, the latest addition to team Defiant. Moore is the great-great-grandson of Robert Smalls, who stole a Confederate warship in 1862 and went on to become a naval hero for the Union in the American Civil War. Smalls also was the first African American to represent South Carolina in the U.S. Congress during the Reconstruction period and went on to start a railway company and newspaper, and was re-elected to Congress multiple times.

Michael B. Moore is an engaged business and community leader who was named to Charleston Business Magazine’s "50 Most Influential" list. Considered to be an innovative thought leader, Michael is an accomplished author and also the Founding President/CEO of the International African American Museum.

Michael has given numerous lectures, inspiring thousands of people with the Robert Smalls story, making him the most notable and credible spokesperson for the family. If you haven’t already seen it, his TEDx Talk “The Audacity of Robert Smalls” is a must watch. Michael will be joining the team as an associate producer and creative collaborator on historical accuracy, evangelizing the project and liaising with the extended family.
