The majority of principal photography takes place at a large estate property in Malaysia — which serves as the Yang family mansion and its surrounding grounds. This contained approach deliberately concentrates production resources, minimizes company moves, and maximizes the amount of screen time captured per production day.

A secondary production block in New York City covers the film's opening and closing sequences. This dual-location structure has been planned with established local crew and infrastructure in both territories, minimizing the logistical risk of international production.

TIMELINE & DISTRIBUTION

Southeast Asia: Distribution Pathway Secured

Clover Films (Singapore) handles all media distribution in Singapore, theatrical through GSC Cinemas (Malaysia's largest chain), and coordinates Indonesia through their regional partner network. Profit-share arrangement, no conditions beyond delivery of the completed film.

Horror is the highest-performing theatrical genre in Southeast Asia. The Hungry Ghost Festival is a culturally resonant event observed across the entire region (China, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, etc).

Our director's previous film achieved distribution in 150+ countries through Lionsgate at a similar budget level. THE HUNGRY ONE is positioned to follow a comparable distribution path as a theatrical event in these territories, not just another VOD release.

GLOBAL SALES STRATEGY

How the film reaches audiences and generates returns through festivals, sales agents, and distributors worldwide:

Alejandro Hidalgo has demonstrated a strong track record in distribution, with both of his first two films—The House at the End of Time and The Exorcism of God—achieving successful theatrical runs.

The House at the End of Time grossed $4.5 million on a $300,000 budget, while The Exorcism of God earned $6.1 million against a $1.3 million budget distributed by Liongates. Both films premiered at major genre festivals including Fantastic Fest and Sitges.

RISKS & MITIGATIONS

SEA distribution already secured. Horror is the most resilient genre. At $1M, the film doesn't need blockbuster returns. Hidalgo's previous film at a similar budget achieved 150+ country distribution.

Casting Risk — Principal cast not yet attached.

Casting proceeds under Hidalgo's direction. His track record spans multilingual, multicultural productions. Commercial viability is driven by genre, mythology, and execution, not just star power.

Revenue Timeline — Returns may take 18-36+ months.

Production timeline targets festival submissions mid-2027. Multiple revenue windows (theatrical, streaming, VOD, international) extend earning opportunities.

Creative Risk — Final film may differ from current materials.

Screenplay developed through multiple drafts from Hollywood screenwriter, Justin Parker. Parker and Hidalgo's involvement ensures creative alignment from script through delivery.

His debut, THE HOUSE AT THE END OF TIME, was distributed in 33+ countries and ran 41 weeks in Venezuelan theaters. New Line Cinema acquired the Hollywood remake rights with Hidalgo attached. A Korean remake was also produced.
