How Everything Started

For the last 15 years, we loved using the public cloud to make ideas come true. However, while leading tech teams over the past 8 years, we began noticing a shift in the cloud ecosystem. Things started to become more expensive than they used to be; free services became paid, and the promise of cloud elasticity we were sold no longer held true.

Today it is reported that more than 48% of companies that use public cloud services spend more than $6 million a year, and 70% struggle to budget and justify their public cloud costs.

In 2024, Barclays CIO survey reported that 83% of CIOs planned to repatriate at least some workloads during that year. This happened a couple of months after VMware announced they were duplicating their prices, leaving the tech industry with limited options.

What We Are Building

We have realized that while cloud repatriation initiatives are indeed on the rise, that doesn’t mean everyone will adopt or want them. We also learned that even if a company repatriates its infrastructure, its on-premise environment or third-party providers may not always offer the same benefits and features as public cloud platforms. Therefore, the real solution lies somewhere in the middle. It’s about providing customers with holistic management of their technological resources, wherever they reside.

That’s why we created qibdo, a platform to consolidate all of a company’s infrastructure resources in a single place, whether they are on-premises or in the public cloud, while eliminating vendor lock-in through repatriation tools. By leveraging qibdo, companies can achieve up to 10x cost reduction while maintaining full control over their infrastructure. In general, qibdo aims to be for the corporate world what Windows was in the ’90s: The default OS for your infrastructure.

This is the moment for a service like qibdo, given the constant increase in cloud costs, data privacy and security concerns, and the acceleration of AI, making it beneficial to train and store AI models on-premises or on third-party bare-metal servers.

Everything In One Place

One of the most powerful features of qibdo is that each service can run on multiple engines at the same time. That could be our own qibdo engine and public cloud engines like AWS, GCP, or Azure.

Think of it like a car chassis. The service, such as Compute, is the car, and the engine could be qibdo running on your own infrastructure, or on third-party bare metal. But you could also use AWS EC2 or GCP Compute Engine. Even better, you can connect them all together as if they were part of the same infrastructure.

And it goes beyond virtual machines. Imagine a data lakehouse where each table can live on a different platform. One table in BigQuery, another in Snowflake on AWS, and yet another in Azure Synapse, all managed as a single system through qibdo.

The cloud industry is at a tipping point and qibdo is perfectly positioned to seize it.

1. Cloud costs are skyrocketing – In 2023, cloud providers increased prices by an average of 23%, putting significant strain on IT budgets. VMware’s licensing costs have doubled or even tripled for many enterprises.
2. Cloud repatriation has gone mainstream – Giants like Dropbox have completed their move away from public cloud, saving millions. Since 2020, searches for “leave the cloud” have surged.
3. Security is driving change – 41% of repatriations are triggered by security concerns, pushing companies toward hybrid and on-premises solutions they can fully control.

The cost pressures, security concerns, and complexity of multi-cloud environments have converged into a perfect storm. The shift away from public cloud lock-in is happening now and qibdo is the platform built to lead it.

The cloud industry is one of the largest and fastest-growing in the world with a projection to reach $1.6 trillion by 2028. But this growth comes with skyrocketing costs, lock-in, and security concerns that have made companies to seek better alternatives.

1. In the US & EU alone, there are 3.35M tech companies, with 1.5M+ already using the cloud.

And this is only the starting point. These numbers assume today’s companies already using the cloud, but given qibdo's hybrid nature, we can also capture companies that want to run workloads on-premises, bare-metal, or across multiple providers. How We’re Going to Make Money

qibdo’s business model combines scalable licensing with a royalty-based growth strategy to maximize reach and long-term revenue.

1. Core Licensing Model

Our primary revenue stream is a per-core annual license for our multi-engine cloud platform. Pricing is simple, predictable, and transparent:

This model eliminates the complexity of traditional cloud billing and allows customers to forecast costs instantly:

Example: 10 servers × 4 cores = 40 cores → 40 × plan rate = annual license cost.

2. Royalty-Based Adoption Model

To rapidly expand our user base and create long-term lock-in, we use a revenue-triggered licensing approach:

1. Free for Education & Prototyping: Non-commercial use at no cost, ensuring early adoption among future engineers.
2. Startup/Personal Tier: Free until the company reaches $200K annual revenue or $1M total funding.
3. Pro/Standard Tier: Kicks in once revenue/funding thresholds are exceeded, applying our per-core pricing.
4. Enterprise Tier: For companies with over a specific annual revenue or equivalent funding; tailored contracts with premium support and features.

This model allows us to capture early-stage customers without upfront friction, and monetize them as they scale so we can maximize lifetime value (LTV).

Note: These numbers are yet not confirmed or settled on stone. But those are our rough estimations.

3. Upsell & Cross-Sell Opportunities

Beyond licensing, we will generate additional revenue through:

Stage 1: US & EU (Years 1–5)

1. Focus on medium to large enterprises spending more than $600k annually on cloud services (with a big focus on companies spending more than $12M).
2. Prioritize verticals like AI, healthcare, and data-sensitive industries where cost savings and data privacy are mission-critical.
3. Target 1% penetration of this market = ~$590M annual revenue potential.

3. Partnerships with regional infrastructure vendors and governments to promote local cloud independence.
4. Leverage free educational licenses to establish long-term brand loyalty among engineers.

How Will We Use the Funds?

We are raising $1.5M to accelerate product development, expand our team, and take qibdo to market. Every dollar is directed toward building a platform with the scale and strength to lead the hybrid cloud revolution.

Here’s how we’ll put investor capital to work:

1. Team & Talent (66%): Our biggest investment is in people. We’ll hire world-class engineers and product leaders to build out qibdo’s kernel services (Compute, IAM, Multi-Cloud orchestration) and accelerate our roadmap toward full public cloud parity.
2. Product Hosting & Infrastructure (7%): Covering servers, hosting, and testing environments required to develop and run qibdo at scale.
3. Software & Tools (6%): Essential platforms for development, monitoring, and collaboration to keep our team productive and efficient.
4. Sales & Marketing (12%): Focused on reaching medium and large enterprises already considering cloud repatriation. We’ll launch targeted campaigns and build partnerships with bare metal providers and infrastructure vendors to seed adoption and positioning qibdo as the “Windows of the hybrid cloud.”
5. Assets & Equipment (3%): Hardware and equipment to support our engineering and product teams.
6. Travel & Customer Engagement (6%): In-person engagements with customers, partners, and investors across the US and EU.

Roadmap

1. Finishing Minimum Valuable Product (MVP) development and internal testing (Months 4–6): We currently have a POC of our Compute service, while still developing the kernel and foundation of the platform. We need a few additional months and support to productize the solution and test it across multiple bare-metal vendors.
2. Pilot with LOI company (Months 7–9): One of the core problems to solve is object storage. This pilot will allow us to develop and test our Storage solution and its integration with other clouds such as GCP, AWS, and Azure.
3. Onboard first paying customers and scale marketing (Months 10–12): We will gather feedback from early customers to refine the platform and simultaneously start developing additional cloud-native products, including a Lakehouse solution and serverless functions.
