1) We want the gen one to retail for $99 with a COGS around half or a third of that. 2) the unit itself is long-lasting, the pores are easily switched out and replaceable, and will be cheap consumables.

I'm a biologist but not a nanopore expert. Can you explain in more detail how lots of people using your device will help create new scientific knowledge?

For you as a biologist, it's important to know that nanopores (and micropores) can detect almost anything in solution, and can measure a lot of different parameters—for single proteins, it's possible to derive size, shape, dipole moment, net charge, and rotational diffusion coefficient from the shapes of the signals that these proteins make when they go through a nanopore and modulate ionic current. We haven't published any of the original mechanical nanopore work that was our focus for a number of years. Launch the alpha console this summer is our main priority, and we'll be publishing results from that.
