Our Founder

I am a psychiatrist and was a public mental health scientist an faculty at Johns Hopkins University for a decade. I chose to focus on use of information technology to bring science and practice closer together

mdlogix, founded in 1997 by Allen Tien

My belief is that trust and health are optimized by intelligent evolution of relationships, best practices, and collaborative knowledge. My role in projects and program development is to bring together a complementary set of knowledge and web and mobile technologies established in prior research and proven in practice to effect a positive change in community capabilities, including identifying and supporting networks of motivated and influential individuals. To contribute to 'health sciences informatics” application and implementation, I have a combination of training, knowledge, and expertise that spans clinical psychiatry, biostatistics, psychiatric epidemiology, clinical research, social network science, public mental health research, computer science, web and mobile application software architecture, and user-centered engagement and social systems re-engineering. I have been developing health science informatics knowledge and software tools since 1987. During the following decade at Johns Hopkins University, I initiated and fostered a multi-level integrative model for teaching students understanding about etiologic factors and interacting developmental processes, from genes to society, for mental health and disorders.

In the following years (1997-present), I made a transition from academic health research and teaching to entrepreneur, founding Medical Decision Logic, Inc. (“mdlogix”) with long-term visionary involvement in health science software purpose, architecture development, interface design, evaluation, and evolution. At the same time, I continue with intellectual interaction and contributions in ongoing informatics and multi-level scientific conceptualization, grant preparation, and technology considerations with mdlogix partners and clients. These include Johns Hopkins University,Pennsylvania Department of Human Services, Bon Secours Community Works, SolanoCounty Office of Education, CMS, SAMHSA, NIH, CDC,and many others. Our main areas of client focus are:
