HelioSlate: A Roof That Pays for Itself... And then Some!

Homeowners overwhelmingly want solar roofs — but today, they simply can’t get them.

  • The typical choice is to pay $30–50k for a new roof and panels, making solar a costly add-on.
  • Premium solar roof products exist, but they come at 2–3x the cost of a traditional roof, putting them out of reach for most homeowners.
  • And for those who go with standard panels, the result often looks like an afterthought — bulky, unattractive, and disruptive to the home’s design.

The demand, however, is undeniable: our survey showed that 77% of homeowners prefer an integrated solar roof over traditional panels. The problem isn’t interest — it’s access. Customers are waiting for a solution that is affordable, scalable, and beautiful.

That’s the gap HelioSlate™ is designed to fill.

Our solution is HelioSlate™ — CdTe solar roof tiles that deliver both the roof and the solar system in one elegant, affordable package.

Instead of paying separately for a roof and panels, homeowners get one roof with double value, saving $30–50k compared to the traditional approach. By integrating solar directly into the roof tiles, we eliminate the bulky, unattractive look of add-on panels and boost home value with a sleek, modern design.

Because HelioSlate™ is priced to compete directly with the combined cost of roof + panels, homeowners can achieve a 6–10 year payback, making it both practical and scalable. And thanks to CdTe’s superior real-world performance, our tiles generate up to 20% more energy than silicon panels in hot and low-light conditions, meaning customers save more and earn more from day one.

HelioSlate™ is the product homeowners have been waiting for: beautiful, affordable, and high-performing solar roofs — made in the USA.

The timing for solar roof tiles has never been better. U.S. electricity costs are climbing to record highs, driving homeowners to seek alternatives. At the same time, demand for solar roofs is proven — 77% of homeowners prefer integrated rooftiles over add-on panels — yet affordable options still don’t exist.

Global supply chain shocks have also revealed the risks of relying on imports, fueling a strong push for Made in USA manufacturing. Meanwhile, premium solar roofs have validated the concept but remain too expensive, leaving a large and underserved market wide open.

That’s why now is the moment: demand is here, costs are rising, and the U.S. market is waiting for an affordable, scalable solar roof solution.

Most people don’t realize that almost 95% of solar panels installed today are made from crystalline silicon, and over 80% of them come from China. These panels are not truly cheap — their economics depend heavily on subsidies, and their performance drops sharply in heat and low light.

CdTe (cadmium telluride) thin-film is different. It’s not another silicon panel. It’s a U.S.-led technology that delivers more real-world energy where people actually live. And unlike silicon, which is tied to Chinese supply chains, we manufacture CdTe panels right here in the U.S., with North American supply chains.

CdTe consistently outperforms silicon:

  • Better in Heat – Only ~0.25% efficiency loss per °C, versus ~0.45% for silicon.
  • Stronger in Low Light – Maintains 95–98% efficiency, versus 88–92% for silicon.
  • Proven in Harsh Climates – Field trials show ~20% more energy output than silicon in hot, humid regions.

We’re already making CdTe solar panels in the U.S. today — and we’re applying it to the rooftop market with HelioSlate™, the solar roof tile designed to change how America powers its homes.

We’re not starting from scratch — we’ve already built the foundation to succeed.

  • Validated demand: In our survey, 77% of homeowners said they prefer solar roof tiles over traditional panels.
  • Proven performance: CdTe delivers ~20% more energy than silicon in real-world field trials, especially in hot and humid climates.
  • Infrastructure in place: We’ve secured $6–8M worth of equipment and assets, fully equipped for pilot manufacturing.
  • Deep experience: Our founder has spent over 15 years advancing CdTe thin-film solar R&D, personally fabricating over a million solar cells and co-leading record-breaking efficiency milestones.
  • Proven team: This isn’t the first time we’re working together — the core team brings 100+ years of combined thin-film solar expertise, and we’ve collaborated for years on prior projects.
  • Founder commitment: I’ve personally invested over $150,000 into the company, with no outside dilution.

We’ve validated the market, proven the technology, secured the assets, and assembled a team with the experience and track record to execute.

We’ve built the foundation — now here’s how we’ll bring HelioSlate™ to market.

  • 2025–26 (Pre-Seed): With this pre-seed round, we’ll complete our facility build-out and equipment commissioning, fabricate demo and pilot batches, and strengthen our IP position. These steps set us up for the next phase of certification and market entry.
  • Late 2026–27 (Seed): A larger seed round will fund UL/IEC certification, comprehensive reliability and safety testing, and the first pilot installations with select roofing contractors. This phase will prove performance, validate installation processes, and prepare us for scale.
  • Early 2028 (Enter Market): We’ll move into regional distribution and establish manufacturing at scale, supported by a turnkey solution (roof + inverter + BOS) that makes adoption seamless for installers and homeowners.
  • Late 2028 (Growth): With product-market fit established, we’ll scale to meet demand, expand distribution, pursue licensing/IP partnerships, and begin exploring international expansion.

This roadmap is focused on execution: validating the product step-by-step, ensuring quality and safety, and scaling responsibly to capture one of the largest untapped opportunities in clean energy.

The opportunity for solar roof tiles is massive — combining two of the largest home markets: roofing and solar.

  • Total Addressable Market (TAM): Globally, roofing and rooftop solar represent a $180B+ market today and continue to grow.
  • Serviceable Addressable Market (SAM): In the U.S. alone, the residential roofing + rooftop solar segment is a $30B annual market, growing at double-digit rates as adoption accelerates.
  • Serviceable Obtainable Market (SOM): Our near-term goals are clear and achievable — reaching 1,000 installs by 2028 (~$25M annual revenue) and scaling to 5,000+ installs by 2030 (~$125M+ annual revenue). Even at this scale, we’d capture less than 0.1% of the U.S. reroof market — leaving huge upside ahead.

Every year, over 5 million homes are reroofed in the U.S. alone. Each of those is a potential sales opportunity — and homeowners have already told us they want solar roofs. The market is enormous, demand is proven, and HelioSlate™ is positioned to capture it.

HelioSlate™ creates value by combining two essential home investments — roofing and solar — into a single, high-value product. That means every roof replacement is an opportunity to sell both a roof and a power plant.

We monetize in three ways:

  • Tile Sales (core): Direct sales of CdTe solar roof tiles through roofing contractors and EPC partners. This will be our primary revenue stream as we launch.
  • Turnkey Systems (2027+): Complete roof + inverter + balance-of-system packages offered through select installers, creating a seamless homeowner experience.
  • Licensing/IP Partnerships (2028+): Longer-term, we’ll expand through technology licensing and partnerships with global roofing and solar manufacturers, creating additional high-margin revenue streams.

Unit Economics: At scale, our costs are projected at $2.2–$2.6/W installed, with sale prices of $3.0–$3.2/W, delivering 20–25% gross margins on turnkey systems and 20–35% margins on tile sales. For homeowners, this translates into $20k–$40k revenue per install, depending on roof size and system capacity.

With 5M+ roof replacements happening every year in the U.S., the opportunity is massive — each roof is not just a replacement project, but a chance to create a self-sustaining power generator. HelioSlate™ is designed to pay for itself quickly. Instead of a roof being a sunk cost, our solar roof tiles can pay off both the roof and the solar system in roughly a third of their life — and continue to generate savings and financial return for the rest of their 30+ year lifespan.

HelioSlate™ is designed to combine the affordability of rooftop panels with the beauty of Tesla’s solar roof — and then go further by outperforming both in real-world conditions.

  • Cost-competitive: At $3.0–3.2/W, HelioSlate™ is priced in line with standard rooftop solar while avoiding the $6–10/W premium of Tesla’s solar roof.
  • Superior performance: Unlike silicon-based products, our CdTe thin-film delivers up to 20% more energy in hot and humid climates, with half the performance loss per °C increase in temperature.
  • Sleek aesthetics: Integrated tiles deliver a modern, seamless look that homeowners prefer — no bulky add-ons or afterthought designs.
  • Scalable and U.S.-made: Unlike import-dependent silicon, HelioSlate™ leverages U.S. and North American supply chains. Our IP position further strengthens our ability to scale domestically with lower supply chain risk.

The result is a product that hits the sweet spot the market has been waiting for: affordable, high-performance, sleek solar roofs that can scale across the mass market.

HelioSlate™ isn’t just another solar roof option — it’s the first solar roof that combines affordability, performance, and aesthetics, made right here in the USA.

Our path to revenue is clear and achievable, moving step by step from pilot production to market scale.

  • 2025 (Pre-Seed): Focus on facility build-out and pilot production setup. No revenue is expected at this stage as we prepare demo and test batches.
  • 2026–27 (Seed): With seed funding, we’ll complete UL/IEC certification and conduct pilot installations (5–10 homes). This will generate <$0.5M in early revenue, at ~20% gross margins.
  • 2027–28: Launching our turnkey solution, we target ~100 home installs, producing $2–5M in revenue with ~22% gross margins.
  • 2028–29: Expansion through roofing suppliers allows us to scale to ~1,000 installs, driving $25–50M in revenue with ~25% gross margins.
  • 2029–30: At national scale and with licensing/IP partnerships, HelioSlate™ can reach 10,000 installs and $150–300M in revenue, with 20–30% margins. Licensing revenue provides additional high-margin upside.

Key assumptions: Revenue per home averages $20k–$40k, with gross margins of 20–25% turnkey and 25–30% for tile sales. Revenue only begins post-certification, ensuring regulatory compliance and product validation before scaling.

We’re raising $75k–$124k in this pre-seed round under Reg CF to launch pilot production. The raise is structured as a SAFE at an $8M cap, with a 10% VIP bonus for the first $100k committed. This round bridges us to a larger $1M+ seed round that will fund certification (UL/IEC) and broader pilot installs.

We’ve already secured permits for occupancy and electrical operation at our facility, which means we are cleared and ready to move forward. With permits in place, this funding allows us to immediately take the next steps:

  • Facility Build-Out & Commissioning: Complete the upgrades needed to run pilot production.
  • Pilot Batches & Demo Tiles: Fabricate initial product batches to validate process consistency and performance.
  • IP & Fees: File additional patents and strengthen our licensing position while covering platform and regulatory fees.
  • Operations & Working Capital: Support the core team and operations as we advance toward certification and pilot deployments.

This pre-seed round unlocks pilot production, strengthens our IP, and positions us to raise the next round that will fund UL/IEC certification and pilot installs. We’re permitted, equipped, and ready to execute.
