Grazr was founded by Tom Cunningham and Anthony Laney, two first generation farmers from middle Tennessee that struggled with the red tape and complexities of bringing local meat to market. As challenging as it can be to raise a healthy animal, the farmer then must have the animal processed. That usually requires transporting the animal to the nearest USDA processor which in our case was two hours away. The farmer then has to choose how the animal is processed and into what kind of cuts the farmer thinks will sell at market that week. Farmer then drops it off and drives home to get back to other work around the farm. After about a week the farmer returns to pick up the finished product and must transport it back to the farm while maintaining a state specified chilled temperature. Then the farmer arrives back at the farm and must store the meat before selling it. Once the farmers market rolls around, off the farmer goes with their meat in some sort of mobile refrigeration. Once at the market the farmer hopes and prays that they selected the right cuts that the customers that day will be looking for. Anything that isn't sold goes back home with the farmer, hopefully to be sold another day but could end up being a loss to the farmer if it doesn't sell.
We founded Grazr because we knew there had to be a better way to connect the local food chain. After extensively researching the factors in play between farmers, butchers, and customers, we built Grazr Market to serve all three parties seamlessly and to finally establish local meat acquisition as a simple local, online experience. Now a farmer sells the stock in shares which are processed by a local processor and picked up or delivered straight to the customer. Simple, sustainable, direct from farm to you. We are Grazr.
