Hi Everyone,

Another item of good news, last week we had a successful test of a new 220lb thrust, 1.4 kNs rocket motor design which is intended as a high powered launch motor for large parachute systems for conventional Ballistic Recovery Systems for Light Aircraft and eVTOLs.

The design was initially specified in discussions last year with ASR Pioneer in the USA and we obtained a small R&D grant from the Aerospace UP fund managed by the Midlands Aerospace Alliance based in Nottingham to help fund the project which has cost over £50,000 in total.

In fact we have a meeting with ASR Pioneer tomorrow to discuss the Co-operation Agreement with them, and we know that they have no current supply of such a large and powerful motor so it will be interesting to see their level of interest.

We can also use this motor in future R&D programmes, either as a parachute launch system for full scale work or as a retrorocket in smaller scale tests so it is a useful piece of work.

Major European Project Enquiry

We are currently working on a specific enquiry from a major European project which is looking for a Safety System for when they begin flight testing their aircraft with a pilot on board. They have specified a system weight which is less than half what a normal parachute system would weigh, and this has led to us proposing a system using a small parachute and retrorockets which would weigh just a little over their target. This would effectively be a Zero-Zero system, whereas the large parachute option at over twice the target weight would have at least the normal 450ft safety gap, or maybe 100-150ft if we used our active opening system on the parachutes.

Hence we are suggesting a system which is near their weight specification and eliminates the Safety Gap which you would have thought would win the day, in spite of the general fear of using powerful rocket motors, but in the controlled test scenario this really should be OK.

We will see whether they invite us to quote formally shortly, but this test flight scenario is potentially a very interesting market for us which we will now actively pursue, as every project has the same problem when moving from the initial un-manned flight trials to the manned phases.

Indian eVTOL Project Enquiry

This is for a parachute based system which we will quote in due course.

CASEVAC Project

One of our current project proposals is for a Casualty Evacuation drone application, for which there is clearly a cargo which must be protected as far as possible, both in the military and the mountain rescue type of scenarios. This is the subject of our German Innovate UK R&D grant application which we are currently completing, with a focus on rapidly opening the parachute system to greatly reduce the Safety Gap.

Singapore Innovate UK Application

This application will focus on the LD-VAS technology development and the use of a steerable parachute to guide the aircraft to a safe landing location, suitable for the crowded urban situation in Singapore, and many areas in the UK.

LD-VAS Market Survey in USA

The initial responses from Mark McElhaney's survey in the USA are confirming our view that there is a real need and potential demand for the system for both Light Aircraft and Helicopters, as well as for eVTOLs, so there looks to be a ready market for the product as soon as we can get it developed and out there. We have a firm arrangement with our avionics development partner for this development, it just remains to be seen whether the Singapore Innovate UK project will help fund it.

Finally, still no news from the USA re the $5m R&D project, and remember that the current half-price ABBS share offer for current investors is planned to close at the end of April.
