I am investing in the 'Calculated' sequels because they are riveting, "can't put it down" written works. They weave an intriguing tale about characters that are caught in the intricate workings of an underground industry. Although aimed at the YA reader, as an avid adult reader I found myself engaged in the exploitation story of vulnerable people (like main character, Jo), who appear to be trapped in a life they did not expect or deserve. Labor and sex trafficking are real, current. Either could be happening in your own town. Drawing from her experiences in Seattle and then Shanghai, new author Nova McBee writes with authority as she captivates our minds and hearts with scenes that are "oh to real" to ignore. She boldly creates images with grace and clarity. 'Calculated' and its sequels draw you into their pages of deceit, abuse, lavish wealth and despair. I am most impressed with the One Door Studios team of Steven, John, and Jay. These are men of integrity and faith. They are intensely committed to their mission - to transform McBee's novels into compelling movies. Movies that will impact generations. Nova McBee, One Door Studios, and famed screenwriter Ann Peacock have accepted this challenge. And, with God continuing to lead them and blessing their efforts, I am excited to see what they produce.
