A feature film about family, love, redemption, and the journey home

The Story

Broken Circle is the story of two men and two families. Eli Grey Wind has lived alone and isolated, from love and from the Lakota culture and family he grew up in. Oliver Fletcher grew up in England and did everything a man is supposed to do, marry, have a good career, have kids. Yet, he’s hiding as much as Eli is. When they both end up living in the same building, and Eli finds himself with a sudden family, the two of them must confront the truths they’ve buried, and find that it’s much easier to do so together.

Why We Think You'll Like This Film

Broken Circle is unique in its characters but familiar in its story. This script explores the intersection of queer and Native American life in a way most filmmakers haven’t explored, as well as focusing that story on older gay men, one afraid to love again, and one just now admitting to himself who he really is. At its heart, though, Broken Circle is a story of family, forgiveness, and finding the courage to be true to who you are, a story everyone can relate to, no matter your sexuality or ethnic background.

The story takes place in beautiful Santa Fe, NM, with many local landmarks serving as the backdrop to the story. We decided to film all on location, without any sets, to make this unique city a part of the story. The production will hire mostly locally, with many Native cast and crew, to make the story as authentic as we can.

We’ve already drawn the attention of a leading actor and an acclaimed director, as well as many Santa Fe shooting locations. This is a small film with a big heart and has the potential to tell a meaningful, important story, one that others haven’t been telling.

The Characters

Our Team

Spring Horton has been writing scripts for over 20 years, and has written, produced, and directed one film previously (The Atticus McLaren Mysteries). Spring also has a Masters Degree in Theatre Directing.

Brennan Elijah is a lover of books and has worked in a few bookstores, but he always goes back to his love for writing that started at a young age. He is currently doing a scriptwriting course.

Kenia Pérez Rivera is a marketing and PR expert living in Spain who is bilingual Spanish/English and loves to keep up with cinema, music, and culture.

Budget & Where Its Going

This is a small film with a big heart. We’re planning for an all location shoot, no sets to build, and all in Santa Fe. This allows us to spend the money you invest on the really important things- the amazing talent we wrote the script for, who have shown interest in it, putting together a collaborative crew of both seasoned veterans and talented newcomers who want to learn their craft, and perhaps the most important of all, keeping our cast and crew well fed and happy.

For $700,000 our basic budget would be met. Your investments will cover:

  • Cast and Crew salaries
  • Location Rentals
  • Specialty Costumes like Pow Wow Regalia, Props, Vehicles, etc.
  • Post-Production- Editing, Music Rights, etc.
  • Catering and Craft Services
  • Insurance and all other expenses

Stretch goals for $800,000- $1,000,000-

  • Bring in another, even more experienced producer
  • Second Location shoot at Standing Rock Reservation
  • Build sets, if needed
  • Pay for film festival trips for producers and talent
  • Hire more crew

Investment Advantages

  • 25-40% New Mexico tax credits
  • No stunts or special effects means lower insurance prices
  • No expensive set builds
  • 120% ROI plus 50% backend pro rata
  • Potential for future partnership as we have a growing team of writers, with another, completed feature script, treatments for 3 more, as well as ideas for more features, and a miniseries

Production Status & Distribution Plan

Broken Circle has finished development and is in the early stages of pre-production. We’ve approached the main cast and director, who are waiting for funding before making final decisions. Some of the other cast has already been found, including some of the actors from Spring Horton’s first film. We look forward to forging networks and relationships with Divergence Productions in the industry, to build a group of people who want to tell the same stories we do.

We are also hard at work scouting locations, sourcing equipment and catering, and doing the initial production designs.

We have a tentative shooting schedule idea of mid-August 2025 to mid-September 2025, and with your help, we can make it official! Once the film is shot and post-production wraps, we will head out on the festival circuit. We plan to premiere in Santa Fe, both for the festival circuit and the theatrical premiere. We’re budgeting for a limited, independent theatrical release in New Mexico and beyond, including special screenings in Native and queer communities. With a hearty, grass-roots led campaign, we hope to make the budget back with this special release. The next step will be to find distribution, including US and foreign sales, so we can start earning you money on your investment!

Thank you! We hope you decide to come along for the ride!
