The Bass Parlour journey started in 2018 when Bass Parlour cofounder Darryl Stephens began hosting a series of 'Pass the Aux' showcases in Washington, D.C., and Atlanta, Georgia. The showcases became popular in both cities because they allowed artists to meet other artists in their city and get real-time feedback on the music that they're currently working on.
With the momentum of the showcases, Darryl decided to open a musician-focused co-working space in Atlanta called Bass Parlour Studios. Here, musicians could rent a private music production station to create their music alongside other musicians working on their music.
Bass Parlour Studios quickly became a staple in the Atlanta independent music community, giving indie musicians a place to create in a relaxed atmosphere that encouraged both collaboration and mentorship. Bass Parlour Studios also hosted weekly music classes on various topics taught by industry experts. The most popular event we hosted was our monthly music collaboration showcase. At these showcases, host Darryl Stephens randomly paired two musicians and gave them 90 minutes to create a new song together, and then they'd have to get up and perform that song. 'These showcases were epic, and dozens of great songs and some talented groups came from these events," says cofounder Darryl Stephens.
Due to the COVID-19 shutdown, Bass Parlour Studios had to shut down in the spring of 2020, but there was still a job left to do. As co-founder Darryl Stephens puts it, 'I saw the incredible amount of excitement that independent artists and musicians had to have a space to connect, teach, learn, and collaborate with other musicians. I knew my job wasn't done. I decided to pivot and transition Bass Parlour Studios from a physical space for musician connection to a virtual space.’ With the Bass Parlor app, we can now connect and empower musicians all around the globe.
The Bass Parlour mobile app connects and empowers a global community of independent artists and musicians. With the Bass Parlour app, musicians can:
