AspectAvy is a mobile app tackling preventive avalanche safety gear.
Dozens of apps get you into the backcountry, but only AspectAvy brings you home too.
Skiing in the backcountry is inherently dangerous. To make the right decision every day, every time, it takes years of experience and advanced training. The terrain and variables are simply too complex and varied.
At AspectAvy, we want to provide a tool that can be used alongside the proper training that simplifies the process and helps backcountry users understand and lower their risk. We should all be able to confidently navigate avalanche terrain, have fun, and come home safely.

By analyzing avalanche accident data sets no one else has looked at, and a proprietary algorithm that delivers radically different conclusions about how and where to travel.
Safety in what you see
AspectAvy combines dynamically changing slope angle shading with the daily forecast, and your on-site, on- mountain input. We then visualize the avalanche terrain for you in real-time.
This guidance relieves decision fatigue, and helps get you home safely, leaving you free to enjoy the flow state all the way.
We show you low-risk terrain
Only AspectAvy shows you today’s live avalanche risk on the map: Clear or Red slope shading. The avalanche forecast changes everyday and your app should too. Then you input the real-time conditions on the mountain to verify the forecast—which can be wrong approximately 20% of the time according to European forecast centers.

- Interviewed over 200 backcountry users to gather data on pain-points, needs and desires.
- Designed and tested more than 15 different prototypes with a variety of users; experienced and novice.
- Using the data from our tests created and validated a working MVP in the 2022/2023 ski season.
- Validated algorithm against past 10yrs + of avalanche deaths. Algorithm prevents 100% of deaths.
