According to Beverage Dynamics, pre-mixed canned cocktails like Subourbon grew in revenue by 26.8% as of this year, going from $588 million to $2.8 billion.
Most importantly, 49% of people surveyed named taste as the primary motivation for purchasing a canned cocktail like Subourbon.
When embarking on the journey to start Subourbon, we aimed to immediately position ourselves for extreme growth that would eventually attract an acquisition company, thus providing a robust return for all of our investors.
Acquirers in the spirits market see the value in young, quickly growing brands. Their goal is to capture these brands early as they are gaining momentum (versus a mature brand in a steady growth phase). These acquirers have vast networks and can immediately plug their new acquisitions directly into the thousands of liquor stores and retail chains across the United States with whom they have strong relationships.
Young brands can easily go from millions to billions in revenue at lightning speed as a result of this process, a fact that these acquirers recognize, which is why acquisition prices can be anywhere from 10-20x the original brand revenue (pre-acquisition).

Bourbon enthusiast and Subourbon founder, Jen Hardell, noticed a white space in the beverage market for an easy-to-drink, delicious daytime cocktail with bourbon, one that would appeal to all types of consumers. The birth of Subourbon started when Jen began to take an avid interest in bourbon. As her knowledge grew, she started finding other bourbon lovers to share her newfound passion with, and quickly found a large, welcoming community in the bourbon whiskey space...There is an undeniable connection amongst bourbon enthusiasts: they bond over the bottles they love, talk about new bottles they want to try and share their experiences on social media, in blogs and at in-person events. Jen quickly became immersed in this crowd of connoisseurs.
At the same time as her bourbon community grew, Jen and her wife continued to nurture their local community, a deep-rooted group of loyal friends. They spent their spare time like any suburban family: at barbeques, pool parties, sporting events, the beach, and the backyard. Despite Jen and her friends’ love for bourbon, she found many of these moments didn’t always vibe with a smooth, neat pour from her favorite bottle. Eventually, as all of these worlds began to merge, the answer to the white space became clear: an easy-to-drink bourbon cocktail that appealed to everyone and could be enjoyed at any time, in any place, and most importantly, with your people.

We are breaking these connotations and lifting the gate to anyone who wants to enter the world of bourbon by delivering an innovative cocktail that eliminates all boundaries: it’s approachable, it’s for everyone, and it can be enjoyed at any time, anywhere, regardless of the event or situation.
People want to know that what they’re consuming is safe, natural, and healthy.
The movement towards ingredient safety and transparency is growing at an explosive speed. More than ever, consumers want to know what is in their food and drink, right down to the tiniest ingredient. Most canned cocktail brands have not adapted to this movement and do not list their ingredients on their label.
While we are not legally required to disclose our ingredients, Subourbon made a deliberate decision to list every single one of our ingredients directly on our cans.
