Hi WeFunder Investors,
September was a busy month of testing components for our 450N (100lbf) rocket engine. We have completed our first open-face hotfire testing of the injector for our Rigel 450 engine. The injector is the beating heart of a rocket engine, and the successful results from this testing have given us and our customer confidence to move into the next development phase for the engine. In this next phase we will be building a new engine test stand and doing the first hotfire testing of a full engine prototype for the Rigel 450 in November.
Beyond the current contract, the Rigel 450 also has applications as the main engine for a storable propellant third stage for small launch vehicles. The 1st and 2nd stages of these rockets all use cryogenic fuel, which is not storable and boils off once it is sitting in orbit. For many missions, having a third stage with storable fuel is a crucial capability, enabling multi-burn missions that go to high altitude Earth orbits, or for exploration missions bound for the Moon, Mars, or other solar system bodies. For some satellite constellations, a stage like this can act as an orbital tug, allowing placement of multiple satellites into distinct orbital locations after they are launched as a group.
What Tesseract does
Space industry growth is being constrained by the extremely high cost of propulsion today. Every system on a satellite or spacecraft has benefited from Moore's Law, except propulsion. Satellite enabled internet will get the last 48% of humanity online, significantly improving lives. All satellites need propulsion and over 15,000 smallsats will be launched in the near future. There are only 1,500 active satellites today. Having low cost, high performance satellite propulsion is key to this happening.
Tesseract is building in-space propulsion systems for small satellites with lower price, low toxicity, and much better performance than existing options. Effectively twice the performance for half the price, allowing this industry to grow. This is just the beginning of a dramatic change for the world.
