First, the good news: the People’s Climate March is happening this weekend. The main event is in Washington and there are satellite events all over the country. We’ll be marching in Boston.

It’s really important that we collectively send a message to our leaders that if we don’t get serious about addressing climate change – think carbon tax – we’re seriously playing with fire. The march is already looking to be bigger and broader than any in the history of the movement.

The not-so-good news is that it’s unless we get featured on Ellen, The Daily show or by Bill Nye, ClimateStore’s Wefunder campaign is not going to reach its minimum goal. As such, we’ve decided to wind it down.

We’d like to sincerely thank those who connected with our mission and invested in our business model. We’d also like to thank the Wefunder team who have built an incredible ecosystem for early stage investors and startups.

Sure, it’s a bummer not to have hit or exceeded our goal, but it will take more than this to dissuade us from our mission and vision.

Why didn’t we do better, you ask? Well, it could have been a number of things (we’re fine with humble pie, that’s how you learn!): a poor pitch, an unconvincing business model, insufficient campaign marketing, not enough traction, concerns about competition, not hitting 20% of our goal early, no tech, food or entertainment angle? There are many possibilities.

We know specialty retail is tough and brand building for the climate is not for the faint of heart, but at the end of the day, businesses must create something of value for a group of interested customers. We fully believe that Americans care deeply about climate change and are looking for products and ideas for low carbon living. Over time, we know we’ll find the magic product-market fit.

Have a thought about what could have made our campaign more successful? An idea on raising seed stage capital? Drop me a line anytime at [email protected] or thought the platform. I’d love to hear from you.

In the meantime, talk about climate change with your friends (really!), attend a march, check out our store for low carbon products, and good luck with your investing.

Cheers!
