OwnLocal’s Excited to Support Austin Bat Cave in the Startup Games

Austin Bat Cave

OwnLocal Loves Austin Bat Cave!

OwnLocal is participating in the ATX Startup Games this weekend and we are playing to support Austin Bat Cave.

Austin Bat Cave is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides children and  teenagers (ages 6-18) with opportunities to develop their creative and expository writing skills. They connect a diverse population of young writers and learners with a vibrant community of adult volunteers in Austin. All of their programs are free which provide opportunity for anyone who expresses interest.

When deciding which charity to play for, Austin Bat Cave immediately came to mind. They have a great mission and as local media and journalism are key components in the mission of OwnLocal, it’s a perfect fit.

This spring, Austin Bat Cave is proud to offer an after-school workshop on zine making for the students at Martin Middle School. During this workshop, students will not only learn how to make their own zines, but also how to conduct interviews, write scene reports, and compose personal narratives. Each student will be tasked with telling their side of the Martin Middle story.

This is the 3rd annual Startup Games in Austin and the first time OwnLocal has participated. The games being at 12:45 CST at Fair Market on Saturday, January 23rd. There is more than $57,000 in the charity pool which will provide a minimum of $1,500 for each team and $20,000 for the winning team. Our team has been practicing hard to make sure we provide ABC with as much support as possible.
