Assets Newspapers Have but Don’t Realize

Assets Newspapers Have but Don’t Realize

While spending so much time in the weeds, newspaper publishers often forget to take a step back and realize how many amazing things their product accomplishes every day…

  • Newspapers really have owned local. They deliver products to your front door every day. And not just any product, a time sensitive product. Let’s take a moment to think about how much work that actually is, it’s amazing! Amazon can’t even do that.
  • Piggybacking off that, newspapers have incredible product creation and a 24 hour turnaround time.
  • Newspapers are much stronger than people realize. They have larger profit margins than airlines, grocery stores, tech companies, and many more.
  • Newspapers have relationships with local businesses; again something that Amazon or even Facebook doesn’t have. We can’t stress enough how important this is.
  • The high PageRank in Google that newspaper websites have. That’s something other websites spend thousands and thousands of dollars on a month that newspapers may take for granted.

Our co-founder Jeremy Mims likes to say that he would much rather solve the digital revenue problem newspapers are having today than the logistics and distribution challenge that newspapers figured out so long ago.

So I hope everyone in the industry can take a step back from the day to day challenges and appreciate what a great product you’re working with is and how they give you a competitive advantage over new media and tech companies.

Stay tuned for the follow up on how to maximize these assets and generate new revenue from the things you’re already doing!
