uBiome’s mission is to translate research on the microbiome into useful products as rapidly as possible. To that end, we are announcing the launch of our clinical lab, which will allow us to provide clinically relevant results for patients in collaboration with their doctors.

We’re so grateful to our research participants for all of their help in developing our these tests. We will continue to pursue research studies on the microbiome (some of our ongoing studies are here and here). All current and ongoing study participants will receive early access to these tests and other benefits.

All uBiome clinical tests will be ordered by a physician — either your current physician or one that we will provide to review your information and order testing on your behalf. Clinical tests will be performed in our CLIA-licensed laboratory in San Francisco and data for clinical lab tests will be stored in a HIPAA-compliant manner. Our CLIA lab was licensed in December 2014 and has undergone extensive testing and validation. Research results will be clearly differentiated from clinical results.

uBiome will provide a fund for those who cannot afford to purchase clinical tests. Donations will be accepted from both research participants and patients who want to help those in need, and a portion of the proceeds from tests will also go to fund those who cannot afford them.

We are so grateful to all of you for being on this journey with us. We look forward to releasing affordable, powerful, and clinically relevant lab results based on the microbiome, and to translating microbiome research into useful therapeutics and clinical tests as quickly as possible.
