We’re in the midst of celebrating Black History Month, a time to focus on the multitude of contributions Black Americans have made throughout our history, contributions that have often been overlooked when teaching children about our past.

A better understanding of the past is crucial to creating a better, more equitable future for all children, one where opportunities to achieve are open to all.

SmartGurlz and Smart Buddies is singularly focused on engaging kids, especially girls and kids of color, to learn coding fundamentals and problem-solving skills through play. Our goal is to help kids see themselves reflected in the diversity of our characters – like Zara and Theo! – and to envision themselves growing up to have a career in a STEM field.

A great way to celebrate Black History Month is to invest in companies like SmartGurlz founded by a minority female after she experienced the inequities in Education for both girls and minorities.
