Black Texas Magazine named Smart Buddies one of the 10 Great Holiday Gifts for Kids in 2020. We are very proud of this citation.

SmartGurlz was founded on the principle of making coding fun, engaging, and appealing to girls and kids of color, in part to help address inequities in STEM education and STEM careers. Women and people of color are vastly underrepresented in STEM fields, and one way to address that imbalance is to help all kids learn the fundamentals and consider these fields attainable for them.

By creating coding toys and apps that reflect our diverse world, SmartGurlz shows all kids that coding is fun, and that coding is open to everyone. We are proud of our mission of diversity, and for us, it starts at the top, as SmartGurlz is founded and led by a woman of color.

Black Girls CODE,
an organization devoted to proving “that girls of every color have the skills to become the programmers of tomorrow,” teaches classes and workshops to introduce Black girls to coding, programming, and game design. Their mission is to give these girls “a chance to become the masters of their technological worlds.”

SmartGurlz and Black Girls CODE have worked together multiple times to conduct workshops and classes, using SmartGurlz coding robots and apps to demonstrate basic coding concepts.

SmartGurlz is pleased to have won a $10,000 award from Shea Moisture as part of their Unsung Businesses Fund, established to reward small, minority businesses that have supported their communities during the COVID crisis.

We want our investors to know that SmartGurlz is living up to its mission of bridging the diversity gap in technology education.  Join our WeFunder round and make diversity and representation part of your investment portfolio.
