Today we celebrate Giving Tuesday, a generosity movement that empowers people and organizations to change their communities and the world around them. KOKORO’s Triple Bottom Line mission includes treating every day like it’s Giving Tuesday by pledging to donate a percentage of our profits to Casa Hogar Alegría, USBG’s Helen David Fund, and announcing today, our 1% for the Planet non-profit recipient...the California Academy of Sciences!
The California Academy of Sciences is dedicated to explore, explain, and sustain life from research and restoration of coral reefs to spreading awareness through environmental literacy around the world. For those who are San Francisco locals, you are surely familiar with their wonderful science museum, and if you're like my kids and me, you’ve paid it countless visits. As an avid camper, their partnership with the U.S. Forest Service to research how the Sierra Nevada forests and wildlife are responding to our recent wildfires also stands out among their many environmental efforts.
Unfortunately, the Academy was forced to close its doors this past Sunday, for the second time this year, to help ensure our public's safety during the pandemic. Despite their ongoing financial challenges from COVID, cut-backs, and budget re-balancing, they refuse to jeopardize their animal care programs. These programs are dedicated to giving the animals at the Academy the proper care they need to maintain their health, survival skills, and to provide additional research to experts around the world. The best part about donating today is that a generous donor has offered to match all donations (up to $50,000) to help us all make a greater impact through science.
Whether it’s the organizations we support or one of your own choosing, we encourage you to participate in today's movement. There’s never an amount or kind act too small to give and I implore you all to be extra mindful of that today.
