NYU Impact Fund is an investor in SmartGurlz and is thrilled about ways we can collaborate on projects. While great advances have been made in K12 online learning over the past year, we know there are still issues, especially when it comes to engaging the youngest learners. An effective online learning platform must be simple enough to engage younger students without parental support AND find a way to easily communicate with parents. It must be interactive and engaging, with live, real-time instruction.
Our proposed maker space platform offers remote active learning aimed at underrepresented STEM learners. It combines a large-scale classroom experience with smaller workshop-style groups. It tracks student engagement and performance on quizzes, games, and other learning exercises. It provides a community sharing platform where videos, pictures, and shareable code can be uploaded. Importantly, the platform offers a safe online environment that ensures privacy according to the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act.
We’re so excited to be working with NYU’s Center for K12 STEM Education to devise creative, research-backed solutions for online
