Max Player, the third-place finisher in the Belmont Stakes, had an uneventful five-furlong workout in 1:02.21 on Monday at Belmont Park as he prepares for the Grade 1, $1 million Travers Stakes on Aug. 8 at Saratoga.

In his previous work, Max Player had to maneuver around an injured horse at the eighth pole on the training track. In his work prior to the Belmont Stakes, Max Player was galloping out when another horse unseated his rider and ran off.

“Regular work, didn’t have to go around a fallen horse,” trainer Linda Rice said. “Went easy due to the heat.”

Rice said she plans to work Max Player at Belmont Park again Monday before shipping him to Saratoga where on Aug. 3 he’ll have his final work for the Travers.

As of Wednesday, those expected for the Travers included Tiz the Law, Country Grammer, Caracaro, and Uncle Chuck.
