92 Early Bird Acres and Counting

employee @ World Tree

Published on May 5, 2020

We have 92 acres left before our early bird pricing comes to an end. Currently you can invest for $2,500 which funds one acre. That will increase to $3,000 once all our 'early bird acres' are funded, which we are hoping and expecting will happen soon.

Thank you to everyone who has invested in our campaign. So far, between our WeFunder investors and our earlier Reg D round, we have raised enough money to plant approximately 900 acres. These trees are already being planted by our hard-working farmers.

Our goal for the next two weeks is to complete our Early Bird raise, which will allow us to plant over 10,000 more trees.

You may be wondering, with everything going on in the world right now, why this matters. I ask myself the same question every day. And then this happens …

Last week one of our farmers sent us a photo of his trees. He is standing in the sun with his family and they are wearing World Tree T-shirts that I hand-delivered to him 2 years ago. They are smiling and their trees (less than 2 years old) are standing tall and proud.

That’s when I remember why we are doing this. These trees are the future, not just for us and our investors, but for those family farmers. You can read more about the Johnson family and their story below.

Another 92 acres funded allows us to support four more families, like the Johnsons. As a champion of World Tree, you can support our campaign not just by investing - but by sharing our story. Please post links to our WeFunder page on your social media or tell a friend.

The Johnson Family

The Johnson Family live in northern Florida on a fourth-generation farm with their three children.

This is what they had to say about their trees:

“For the last three generations this was primarily a tree farm. We are keeping the family tradition going. These fields that we planted with paulownia have been out of pine for the last 20 or so years and were in pasture for cattle.

You will not believe these trees. You pass by them one time and go to the store when you come back they are an inch taller. They are labor intensive so don’t underestimate the work that goes into setting them out and weeding, mowing and pruning. They are our labor of love. We were skeptical at first but after seeing the trees grow and looking at what is possible at harvest, we are left with the question why not give these trees a try. The customer service with World Tree has been amazing. What has been neat for us is to meet the founder Wendy and her son Nick, and also to see World Tree progress steadily and be able to have the one on one 24/7 support.

Here in the second year, most of the trees are over 13’ in height and they all just finished blooming. We had flowers on the trees for the last three weeks. The flowers were quite beautiful, and they smelled great.”

Meet the Team: Nick Gobbett

Nick Gobbett, measuring a 1 year old tree in Costa Rica

You don’t hear much about Nick on here.He is one of our quieter team members. He is also my son. Yet Nick has been working with World Tree on our Farmer Success team since 2016 and knows every single one of our farmers personally. Nick has visited many of our farmers and speaks to them all on the phone throughout the season to answer their questions and get updates on the trees.

Nick is also in charge of our audit data-management. Monitoring the farms, as well as counting and measuring the trees is an important part of our activities at World Tree. Last year Nick went on site to some of the Costa Rica farms with University of British Columbia professor Dr. Trevor Jones to get hands-on training with tree measurements and audits. This year he is part of the team rolling out new software and tracking systems that will automate and centralize much of our data collection. This detailed, quiet work is essential to our future - thank you Nick!
