THE TEAM NEWS

CANADA

Canada made it seven wins in a row at the 2019 IIHF World Championships as they defeated Switzerland in the most dramatic fashion possible to progress to the semi-finals of the tournament.

Damon Severson tied the game with under a second remaining on the clock before Mark Stone won the game for the Canadians in overtime which was his seventh goal of the tournament.

That goal for Stone was also his second of the game and took him to 12 points which sees him tie with Anthony Mantha as the top scorer for the Canadians and they will look to the duo for inspiration if they are to reach the final.

CZECH REPUBLIC

Czech Republic blew Germany away in the third period of their quarter-final contest as their four unanswered goals was enough to send them through to the last-four as their impressive run of form continued.

With the game tied at 1-1, the Czechs scored four goals in a 16-minute period to defeat the Germans and give themselves a great chance of claiming a medal for the first time since 2012.

Jakub Voracek scored the go-ahead goal in the third period against the Germans which was his 16th point in the tournament so far and he lies just two points behind leader William Nylander coming into this crunch match against Canada.

THE PREDICTION

Canada could not have left it any later to tie the game and force overtime against Switzerland with the Canadians now facing the Czech Republic following that win. The Czechs proved too good in the third period as they defeated Germany and are now the highest scoring team remaining in the competition. They have scored 44 goals and as shown against the Germans, they are capable of scoring in quick succession which can help them to potentially cause a shock and knock Canada out
