The fire setbacks are indeed something to be solved. One issue is that while the code is national, there are some different interpretations of it. For instance, for an array covering less than 33% of the plan roof area, you are able to avoid the rake setbacks, but otherwise there are different requirements for how large these areas must be. In all areas where we cannot use a full size solar panel, we rely on 'dummy panels' of an inactive but aesthetically matching material to fill in. This is how we accommodate valley/ridge conditions and odd size panels, as well as venting situations. The ideal roof face is a clean roof face, as complex geometries simply are not efficient for our system, much like conventional rooftop solar. We are also planning to do microinverters/optimizers as part of our system as the standard approach as this provides several advantages.
