The key feature of the technology is the ability to be installed near people. Low noise, low vibration, high efficiency.
Sirocco Wind Turbine is a novel and efficient wind generator for urban energy production. With a granted patent in Europe, and over $1 million previously raised. We are now patent-pending in the USA. Sirocco Energy Turbines aim to make clean energy safe, affordable, and easy to use for all. Designed for urban and suburban areas alike - we’re offering the market a new type of wind generator. A key feature being the ability to be installed near people, not out in the middle of nowhere. That means our solution is not only accessible, but it’s also efficient, affordable, customizable, and quiet - solving a range of problems for:In our view, current energy-saving solutions tend to be challenging in cities because of high noise and vibration levels. Sirocco Wind Turbine generates twice as much energy as a classical wind turbine of the same capacity, at a typical wind speed of urban locations, and up to 30% more energy at nominal wind speed. Our 10 kW model requires 3.5 times less space than traditional wind turbines of the same power capacity. The efficiency of space utilization will only grow with capacity increase and can reach up to 10 times difference. This means that we can fit 10 times more wind generators on a given piece of land compared to the traditional models.Unlike typical generators, our wind turbine has not a rotational, but linear motion - similar to how birds’ wings move while flying. Sirocco Wind Turbine is equipped with a wind tracking system, which ensures maximum generation efficiency at every moment. During the storm winds, the turbine stops in a position parallel to the wind direction - making it safe for both people and the mechanism itself. With innovative shape - Sirocco has managed to achieve a lower price per nominal power output compared to other wind generators. We mean it when we say we prioritize accessibility. Our business model is based on turbine leasing, allowing customers to easily start using Sirocco Wind Turbines without an initial investment. This model also creates a stable revenue stream for Sirocco Energy.Global energy investments reached $2.4 trillion in 2022, with the anticipated rise coming mainly in clean energy (source). The global small wind power market was estimated at $7.4 billion in 2020, and is expected to hit $17.1 billion by 2030 (source). This level of growth is expected without factoring in the effect of our product entering the mass market (source).Forward-looking projections are not guaranteed. We have spent more than 6 years on R&D and performed extensive testing of our patented technology. We received funding from the EBRD and successfully raised more than $1 million from the high profile investors. Our team of 12 hails from the backgrounds in marketing, engineering, aerodynamics, and hardware development - collectively making up 183 years of professional experience. We believe the global energy crisis will only progress, and so are the investments in the clean energy. With this capital raise, we will focus on production expansion of our wind turbines, aiming to become an energy distributor. Our price per kW leasing model is already up to 80% in certain states. When looking to the future, the renewable energy sector and urban energy production landscapes are shifting. In 2022 alone Con Edison Clean Energy Businesses was acquired by RWE Renewables Americas for $6.8 billion, and Archaea Energy Inc was acquired by BP for $4.1 billion (source). We believe we’re at the beginning of a potentially huge energy crisis, where companies and households need new affordable solutions, and energy independence. Great question! First of all, the turbine is very compact and doesn’t take up much of the valuable space. Second, Sirocco turbine blades don’t have twisting, so no infrasound associated with the traditional wind generators is produced. The mechanical noise is very low, less than a sound of an air conditioner. Moreover, the construction doesn’t generate damaging vibration. This allows it to be installed near people. Third, maintenance and servicing is easy and inexpensive. Sirocco wind turbines are modular and all elements are standardized. In contrast, if a conventional wind generator needs replacement of the main-shaft bearings, it won’t ever be able to become profitable. Sirocco wind turbines do not have the main shaft, any of the generators or blades can be easily repaired. Moreover, one of the unique features of the technology is the ability to modify the power and rated wind speed even after the turbine's installation. It’s possible by changing the number of blades, number of generators and swept surface area. Fourth, the turbines were designed to work in a low and turbulent urban wind with a high aerodynamic efficiency reaching 50%. Traditional wind turbines work best in the strong wind of 12-18 m/s. And at low 4-8 m/s wind their aerodynamic efficiency coefficient decreases up to 20% (nominal is around 35%). For example, the classical 10 kW wind turbine with a nominal wind speed of 12 m/s at a monthly average wind speed of 7 m/s produces approximately 2050 kWh, so 20% of its potential. Sirocco wind turbine of the same power with a nominal speed of 7 m/s in the same conditions will produce 5100 kWh. That means 149% better electricity production! Fifth, the turbine’s price is much lower and leasing options are available to the customers. For example, factories are one of the largest consumers of electricity, which consume around 620MW annually. The leasing of Sirocco wind turbines will allow them to save almost half the cost of electricity. And of course, the turbine is totally environmentally friendly. Due to the slower movement and higher density of the blades, they are more visible for birds which ensures their safety. All parts of the Sirocco wind turbine can be recycled, including the aluminum blades. In contrast, the blades of traditional wind turbines are made from fiberglass. There is no technology for recycling fiberglass and the blades are just buried on the earth causing damage to the environment. Such a huge range of advantages makes Sirocco turbine suitable for the urban areas and allows it to be used in private houses, apartment buildings, shopping malls, electric vehicle charging stations, factories, and other facilities.
Such an outstanding design. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory produced a Built-Environment Report Summary in 2016 and the Boston Museum of Science also did an experiment with small wind on their roof, in both cases the turbine that was successful at meeting its published power curve was the (now unfortunately discontinued) Skystream 3.7 which was Small Wind Certification Council certified and was basically plug and play with UL1741 power output. Essentially all other wind energy capture devices over promised and under delivered without the challenge of independent verification. Both reports also note the heavy challenge of small wind in urban environments. The significant jump in efficiency (without a significant jump in price) that Sirocco Energy potentially has could swing small wind to a success story in these challenging environments. The proof is in the tested/delivered product. The probability is not in our favor given the number of attempts to solve small wind in the past that have failed, however I am hopeful your design has new approach and therefore I am looking forward to third party test results and even invested a small bit more to hopefully help get you there sooner. Maybe reach out to the Boston Museum of Science to put one of your turbines on their roof and get free publicity when they publish that your turbine easily surpasses all the others? Even conventional wind turbines (horizontal axis) will be much more efficient. In contrast, Sirocco turbines have aerodynamic efficiency up to 50%. What we see from first sight as well, the technology of Flower Turbines is very limited for scaling. There company boasted some variable air gap design that allows the turbine to spin at 1 to 2 mile a hour but did not make any power. and a Furling Technology that allowed the Turbine to operate at high speeds. They claim to be able to make 85% of their own parts now and will out source production instead of building their own factory. I did watch 40 min video over there. but I choose to invest in your company. I wonder how your compay builds its own parts or plans to mass produce product. I think your company is much further along getting revenue, but I wonder if they have any tech patents that you envy? I guess time is running out to invest in their company. What do you think of their technology. They claim to have a cutting edge Generator and will have their RandD tested by Penn St. University. Thank you for your choice and your trust in our technology. Talking about Harmony Turbines, that turbine is a modification of the classic Savonius rotor. They have almost all characteristics in common. The rotor has a relatively low coefficient of wind energy utilization, a significant material capacity, and an uneven torque per revolution. However, the rotor is widespread enough due to its ease of manufacture and high starting torque that it is often used as a displacement aid for low-starting torque turbines. Savonius turbines are used whenever cost or reliability is more important than efficiency. You can check some basic descriptions here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Savonius_wind_turbine. During our development, we started from the principles according to which the most efficient and widely applicable wind turbines work. The horizontal axis turbines currently occupy around 95% of all wind turbines on the planet. Regarding our production, right we independently manufacture almost everything except the rotational mechanism of generators and bolts. That's our control and power electronics, blades, guides, frame, mast, etc. That is because we're still finishing R&D and it's faster and easier this way. Most probably we gonna change this with the start of mass production.
This is the most efficient way to generate urban energy. Per your August 2022 update you were "working on testing and technology polishing of our 3-kW turbine". Great work! Is the 3kW design now complete? What are the real world results? Do they match modeling/predictions? What challenges have been found and what are your planned mitigations? If you have a completed design, will you be submitting a turbine for Small Wind Certification Council certification this year? Do you have parts supplier contracts in place? What is your manufacturing scale up plan? Per your February 2023 update you "have been working tirelessly on a new 4 kW wind turbine model". Awesome! What changes are being made from the 3kW of last year? What lessons have been learned? Thanks for the all the work you are doing here! I know that the path to creating a new technology is rarely linear, and setbacks are part of the process. I am still very hopeful that this is a transformative technology, however, as small wind is a very hard problem to solve economically, extraordinary claims need to be backed up by extraordinary data or detailed communication about how results did not meet expectations and what the next steps are.
Hi William. Thank you for your questions and involvement. In both updates we’re talking about the same turbine. After testing it in the summer, we realized it has a bigger capacity than we expected - and that’s good news, so it became a 4-kW model. Though we had some issues with the frame and blade attachment. That was the reason we couldn’t move forward with it and needed to make one more round of R&D to fix it. Now we’re testing turbine in different conditions, including cold climates to eliminate all the possible drawbacks. Yes, we intend to submit our turbine for certification this year, but we need to do all possible internal testing before that, or it’s a waste of time and money. In the best case scenario we gonna launch small-scale production this year and fullfil our key B2B orders in a more pessimistic scenario that gonna happen next year. Yes, we realize that it’s important for the investors (for us as well) to see fast progress of the company. And we’re working hard to show it. But everyone investing should understand that we’re working on an absolutely novel technology. Some technological decisions we use are completely new. It takes time, it takes money. We want to create the best urban wind turbine. We claimed that and we’re staying committed and true to this goal.
How could a company benefit from leasing a unit and carbon credits? I have meanwhile made an initial investment and hope you will reply to this question from last week that I have now reposted so that I can decide if I want to invest more, within my limitations. You answered someone on this page, "In three years we budget revenue around $10M-$20M. Our goal is to do M&A/IPO within 5 years," and on the Overview page you speak of your market opportunity as being $50B, with your initial market of factories being $29B. What are you targeting your revenue to be in 5 years, or at M&A/IPO? How much of that $50B market would you realistically hope to capture, and over what period of time? Several have asked you here the difference between Sirocco and Flower Turbines, but I will ask you how much of a "threat" you deem their product is to yours? Their company is at a more advanced stage than yours - already at Reg A - which gives them a market advantage. How will you deal with that? What feedback have you heard from objective experts in the field or in the financial world comparing the two systems? There are also several other wind energy startups here on wefunder, and things then get even more complicated. Also, your team is only a CEO, a COO, and a CTO. Is that enough going forward?
Hi Josh! Thank you for the questions. Regarding the revenue, I kinda lowered expectations (hate over-promising), from the negotiations and pre-orders we're having now, $10-20M should be the revenue of 2022. In 5 years we're targeting $400-500M revenue. We don't see much threat from the Flower Turbines product, actually our markets are a bit different. Flower Turbines' key product is 1 kW and due to the technology limitations, they won't be able to go much higher in capacity. We're interested mainly in the B2B market with 10-30 kW products (it's more economically viable). Then we'll move even further. We have incredible scaling potential and we'll use it. Even for households, it makes much more sense to install 3-5 kW turbine to cover all the needs. It's 10 people in a team now (mainly engineers) and we're hiring more right now.
Hi Anna - 4 more slightly random questions: 1 - Your pitch states the noise level is 41db - according to most sources I checked, 40db is equivalent to a quiet library, or the lowest urban ambient noise you would notice - is that a fair comparison ? 2 - You mention in one of the videos that this raise will - amongst other things - help your execute your marketing plan: can you give any details or general themes on that plan ? 3 - The Timeline graphic in your pitch states a patent was filed 2021 - is that patent actually awarded/finalised by now, or still pending ? 4 - Turbines on their own are obviously not the entire solution - you need to be connected to the local/national electricity grid and/or be using some sort of battery storage: have you had discussions in this direction, particularly with battery tech suppliers such as Tesla, StorEn ?
