While she was able to pump at her job - multiple times a day, for many months - the process was cumbersome. One of the biggest challenges was keeping the milk cooled. Many moms bring coolers with ice packs to work. These moms stress that the milk gets too warm, and until now there has been no way to easily monitor the milk's temperature. Our product makes pumping easier. Our product, Maia, keeps milk at a safe temperature for up 24 hours. And we've built an internal thermometer activated by double-tapping Maia's lid, so you can check the temperature anytime. Maia's keeps milk cool with fewer parts. Its shell is made of food-grade stainless steel so it's more durable than fabric cooling bags. It connects to all bottle-based pumps (either directly or with the aid of an included adapter). And it's small enough to comfortable fit in a purse or work bag. The market for Maia is big and getting bigger. The global breast pump market is valued around $2 Billion, with 75% of sales generated in the United States. Over 2.5 million moms in the U.S. will use a breast pump this year, and that number replenishes and will increase each subsequent year. More moms than ever before are going back to work after maternity leave, and more moms than ever before are continuing to breastfeed after maternity leave (which means they will be using a pump). Initially, our typical customer will spend between $110 and $15o on Maia and accessories (extra plastic bottle if one is in the dishwasher, extra cooling pucks to keep in the freezer). We will increase that amount through additional product offerings over time.An investment in Pippy Sips is an invest in American manufacturing.Pippy Sips is confident that Maia has a durability, functionality, and aesthetic appeal superior to other portable storing and cooling systems—all with fewer component parts. More still, Maia is the only such system being manufactured right here in the United States. The materials will all be domestically sourced. And the system as a whole will be assembled and tested an hour from Pippy Sips's Philadelphia headquarters. Also, even though Maia is not a medical device per se, Pippy Sips is having Maia built according to ISO 13485 quality procedures for FDA-regulated medical devices. Pippy Sips honors the trust of its customers by making sure it has done everything it can to build a product that will be safe for children and will put breastfeeding moms at ease.
https://uploads.wefunder.com/uploads/company/custom_card_photo/48669/xxl_cropped_rendering_of_product_version_3-thumbnail.jpg
Successfully raised over $20K from 182 backers on past crowdfunding campaign. campaign:https://ifundwomen.com/projects/maia.
claim-fact-2
Maia is a breast pump accessory product. Love the product and idea but I had some questions (sorry there a lot but I think its a great concept worth knowing more about) Financial: 1. Can you give me a sense of the unit economics per SKU? You mentioned a selling point of ~$110 to $150, but in terms of EBITDA or operating income, what types of margin do you expect in the beginning and then at scale? What is your projected breakeven volume number? And what is the fixed vs variable cost split for the product? 1a. In my mind, this exists a premium accessory to a breast pump kit, as a percentage of a normal pump kit, how much more is this for a mother? 2. Do you have a cash burn figure/expectation or timeline from this round of funding, that is to say, how long would your target fund raise goal last you? Moreover, realistically there will be production delays and unseen expenses, so is this enough capital, and what's your current timeline to selling a product, given the slide deck targets winter 2020 production. 3. Why use convertible debt vs straight common equity? Is that the same form of capital raised in your previous funding campaign? 4. What are the various testing/brand approval requirements needed to make the product at least comparable to other options if not differentiate it? I.e. BPA free, and some endorsement from a reputation trade association or mothers brand. 5. Have you thought about the best platform to sell this through? Does your e-commerce plan include customer acquisition costs? Product: 1. This may be dumb (I am a guy), but I would also guess one of the harder things to do would be to heat up the milk outside of one's house or apt, have you thought about that at all? Perhaps a future SKU? 2. Who is doing the testing on the product? Does it reflect a wide range of mothers/users? What kind of feedback are you getting and what is your ability to make product changes based on that once you are in production? 3. I love the sleek and modern design of the product, can you speak to patent protection and ease of mass production (as in does the design limit supplier diversity)? Customer: 1. I imagine customer service/building trust is going to be a huge component of sustaining this business. Can you speak to your efforts around that, and what resources/employees are focused on that part? Moreover, what about warranties and returns? 2. The premise of the business is ease of use for breastfeeding mothers as they return to work or are on the go essentially, to that extent, what's the typical profile of your target customer with respect to age, income, new/experience mothers? 3. What will retain/generate repeat customers? Is it mostly sales of peripherals like extra bottles or cooling pucks? 4. Is there an ability to create some community or customer loyalty rewards? In a scaled up scenario, based on the relative uniqueness of your design, it would be obvious to other mothers that they are using MAIA, can you leverage that at all? Corporation: 1. In terms of your team who is actually in charge and responsible for what? 2. What type of production, distribution, sales, product design, and corporate finance skills exist between the team? 3. If you are lacking in a skill set, what is it, can you hire it, and when? Again sorry for all the questions but its a really great idea!
Hi Evan. Thank you for your interest in our company and for the thoughtful questions. Please feel free to email us (info@pippysips.com) to set up a time to discuss.
Hello, Dr. Garnier, great to hear from you. Things here are moving slow but at least in the right direction. Check out our latest general-info newsletter at the following link - https://t.co/OHDSM8nfMx - and feel free to subscribe to hear about many of the Pippy Sips happenings. We will be sending out a communication to our investors later this month that will be a bit more granular. In the meanwhile, we’re happy to answer any specific questions you may have. Hope all is well on your end. - Pippy Sips
I love the concept and the product.
