Even WeFunder mentions in their FAQs that they introduced this in May 2020. WeFunder already makes money by means of fees as % of total amount raised. Others also take a small portion of equity in lieu of fees. This whole XX group and lead investor feature would make sense if they bring forward some exclusive deals that are very highly likely to succeed. Those are not the type of deals available here.
