World-Class, Luxury Experience at an Attainable Price.","elevator_pitch":"All Electric Vehicle Rentals, starting with Teslas based in NYC and starting with the NYC Metro Area Market. We deliver your car to the curbside wherever you are in our service area.","story":"Learn MoreThe rental car market is booming and is expected to reach $214 billion by 2027 (source). However, despite the increased growth, the rental car market is lagging far behind the times. As Millennials and GenZ become the largest consumer demographic in the US, the demand for green services like EV rentals only continues to grow, and the car rental space is filled with legacy rental car companies in need of disruption.Electric vehicles are the future, but traditional rental car companies have not embraced EVs and don't have the customer service to support the new technology. Joulez is here to change that. The car rental industry still has yet to catch up with the growing demand for greener transportation, and the rental process hasn’t been updated in ages—long lines, complicated policies, hidden penalties at every turn, and more. Most of the rental cars available today are gas-run, mass consumer, low mileage vehicles that come with a subpar customer service experience. In fact, many rental car companies don’t have any EVs to rent.Consumers are demanding solutions that address the rapidly-changing climate crisis while also delivering a modern, convenient, and luxury experience. However, few companies have embraced electric vehicles and even fewer are focused on delivering a quality experience throughout the rental process. At Joulez, we’re taking the car rental game to new heights. By offering premium EVs such as Tesla, Mercedes, and Kia, with many more to come, and by delivering exceptional customer service and a modern rental experience, we’re revolutionizing the way people rent cars.We recognize that renting an EV may take some adjusting for those accustomed to gas cars, and we are committed to providing our customers with the most user-friendly experience possible, including virtual tutorials and an app full of information for new EV drivers. Our service will provide everything the driver needs from the moment they book their vehicle to the moment they return it.Our on-demand system will allow customers to book cars through our mobile app or website, with support available through a video conference and reservation management interface. We also intend to build loyalty with our customers through a rewards program that will feel similar to those of top hotel brands and airlines. Our unique and modern web and mobile platform will be built around electric vehicles and the unique needs of EV renters.Founded in May 2021, the Joulez vision has always been to electrify America’s transportation while providing a high level of customer service. We are here to create a better way to get places, and with less than 2% of EV rental cars available worldwide, we see the opportunity to take this industry by storm. We are currently raising money to help acquire the fleet of electric vehicles needed to successfully roll out our platform, but we have already seen much success since our founding. We’ve expanded our fleet to 30 electric vehicles and counting. We previously raised over $500,000 on StartEngine. We’ve hired more team members to help oversee operations and assist in delivering world-class support for our customers. We’re revving up to expand our EV fleet in NYC and eventually expand to new cities. Our process is simple and easy. With several electric vehicles to choose from, users can find the perfect EV for them, book it, and set their desired pickup and dropoff time. Or, for those who want the ultimate luxury experience, we’ll deliver their EV right to their doorstep if they’re within our service area. We're committed to going above and beyond to educate people on the power of electric vehicles and the state of our environment while also providing a solution to help them get to where they need to go.As we gear up to launch, we currently have a beta test group of 1,000 clients renting our EVs, and we are working to design and develop the mobile app that customers can use to book our cars. We will offer daily, weekly and monthly rentals at competitive rates for our NYC market, with prices ranging from $75-200/day. We anticipate that at a 65% vehicle rental utilization rate which will cover the entire vehicle cost within 2 years including labor, repairs, cleaning, maintenance, storage, charging and insurance. Plus, the resale value of Teslas and comparable EVs has outperformed the resale value of traditional gas-powered cars, and we anticipate this trend to continue, providing a steady financing mechanism to support expanded operations. FINANCIAL MODEL DETAILSWe currently pay an 8% fee (including transaction fees) for listing the vehicles on Turo.We currently work with an operations partner, Noonan Auto Group, who cleans, secures, and delivers the cars. The operations partner minimizes overhead by avoiding the need to have any full-time employees, but they take 30% of the total rental revenue after Turo fees. Our operations partner generates thousands every month upselling insurance products, and we see this as a critical addition to our revenue model. Our first six months of operations with a limited number of vehicles has given us a margin of $500+ per vehicle above operating costs, which is scalable as we grow.As a premium brand that connects drivers with an amazing rental car experience, we aim to be the global leader for electric vehicle rentals, starting out in New York City, with the goal to make our services available throughout the US and Canada, with networks touching all other continents. To do this, we’re seeking $5M in investments to expand our geographic reach and software development. That $5M will be divided into two main categories: $3.75M for US Expansion Growth Capital and $1.25M for Software Development/R\u0026amp;D.US EXPANSION PLANEach garage we open costs approximately $200-250K to startup. This includes:Down payments on vehicles (80-90% LTV financed at 5-6% APR)Installation of charging infrastructureDown payments for storage and insuranceInitial staffing needs for the specific locationLocalized marketing effortsForward-looking projections are not guaranteed.SOFTWARE / R\u0026amp;D DEVELOPMENT INVESTMENTEV OEM integration is anticipated to cost $76K/integration, and the EV Charging Network integration is anticipated to cost $40K/integration. Based on current development work, we foresee doing integrations with 6 of the leading EV networks in the US and the 10 largest EV manufacturers in the US. We anticipate an additional $250K cost to manage various core functionality requirements including our Rewards Program, Insurance Upsales, and Corporate Partnerships. The rental car industry is primed for major growth, and Joulez is ready to deliver a car rental experience unlike any other. You also posted during what was our busiest week ever, so I wasn't paying much attention to WeFunder while we were renting cars. (1) We are already actively delivering curbside to LGA, JFK and Newark. (2) Right now the management team is slim. There is myself (Micah, CEO) and then we have a fractional CFO ($750/week but can be converted to equity), a full-time admin who helps with claims, insurance, contracts, etc. and finally a US based project manager for software development. Most of the funds are going to garage operations team members (cleaning, charging, detailing, repairs, etc.) and then our software team based in India. I worked previously in India developing software, and we are trying to develop a great software solution for Joulez that will set us apart. The vehicles themselves are cashflow positive, and if it wasn't for the software development component we could actually be turning a profit right now. However, we see the long-term value in the technology not in just the rental car business. Our burn right now is about $30K/mo with the software development. The good news is we could operate tomorrow profitably and turn off the software development if we absolutely had to. We have the tools already in place to run a profitable car rental operation, so there is a bit of a fallback with this business if we are not able to keep burning at the level we are currently burning. (3) Expanding our fleet, garage locations and adding to our software development team so we can hit some key milestones. Our goal is to have 100-200 cars in our fleet this year in a few key markets (NYC, Chicago, Phoenix and South Florida). (4) 35 and HOPEFULLY 50+ this month in the NYC Metro with locations in Queens and The Bronx. As is the case throughout the country we are waiting on inventory. (5) We have been having active discussions with VCs, but to date no one has made a firm commitment. As such we are focused on having a successful WeFunder raise and showing that this business is viable. We certainly will look at how we can grow this business with outside VC capital if need be.","author_name":"Micah Bergdale","votes":1,"created_at":"2022-07-11T13:42:15Z"}]},{"id":206011,"entity_id":"wefunder:comment:206011","question":"What is proprietary about this model? Turo has done a great job at disrupting the industry, and Turo's success shows that there is very little brand loyalty to the traditional brands. We are partnered with Turo as a point to mention as we feel that while we will compete with them on other sales channels, they have become a valuable source of marketing our vehicles for rent. In some of the responses above I mention a number of key elements that are proprietary to what we have built vs. what exists in the market today. What we have seen over and over is that the legacy players lack the internal innovation resources to be prepared for the coming onslaught of EVs that are essentially computers on wheels. Our thesis is that these vehicles will have to be managed much the same way that an IT department manages computers, printers, and smart phones on an IT network. We are fundamentally a technology company built around EV rentals as a primary revenue driver. We have already developed a number of solutions that we are applying for provisional patents on. In my background at my previous startup I had 10+ patents issued around tech we developed and those patents held up in court in litigation. I know how to build real value for the technology we are developing in addition to the value of the vehicles and rental revenue. My general experience in competing with incumbent companies is that many of them struggle to innovate in industries like car rentals, and this industry is due for a major overhaul.","author_name":"Micah Bergdale","votes":1,"created_at":"2022-05-24T16:16:49Z"}]},{"id":205885,"entity_id":"wefunder:comment:205885","question":"How is EV rental car different from normal car renting? Renting a normal car meant that renters could fill up gas at any gas station and the responsibility was on them. WIth EVs, they are integrated into the EV charging networks with dedicated accounts. For example, if I charge a Tesla at a Tesla SuperCharger or a Mercedes EQS at ElectrifyAmerica, it automatically recognizes the Joulez car and account without the renter needing to input any payment information. This creates logistical challenges around: (1) How do rental car companies build this into their model; (2) How do we train customers where/how to charge a car depending on the vehicle; (3) How do we make sure the customer is getting the best rate for charging possible?; (4) How do we make sure a customer can find a compatible charging station at a place that is convenient for the origin(s)/destination(s) of a rental without having range anxiety or creating too much waiting to charge a vehicle? (5) How do we make sure that as part of the rental experience a user is not spending hours charging because they selected the wrong charger? These are just some of the challenges that exist that traditional rental car companies have never had to overcome. We include training, videos, SMS/video chat support and we are integrating with the charging networks to make the process as seamless as possible. Rental car companies have never had to worry about integrating with gas stations as an example and they have been built on legacy tech platforms that are not ready for being able to do these types of integrations that we are working on with the major charging networks.","author_name":"Micah Bergdale","votes":1,"created_at":"2022-05-24T15:56:32Z"}]},{"id":206117,"entity_id":"wefunder:comment:206117","question":"Where are the raised money going? The funding is going toward: (1) down payments for vehicles (we have debt financing secured if we have sufficient down payments); (2) technical integrations with the OEMs that give renters the ability to experience the OEM app and associated functionality as if they were an owner of the vehicle (traditional rental car companies do not provide any OEM app integration, which is becoming the primary way OEMs are allowing drivers to interact with a car); (3) technical integration with charging networks: Tesla, ChargePoint, ElectrifyAmerica and Blink for example so we can make sure customers know where, how much and how fast a charge for their rental will be; (4) Marketing in new markets as we enter into them; (5) outfitting garages with charging infrastructure so we can quickly charge cars at our garages (this includes opportunities for local, state and federal grants; (6) developing our software for fleet management use cases that would allow us to license the software to corporate and government fleets as they move to electrify their fleets. Traditional car rental companies have a solid and proven model around revenue generation and the value of the vehicle over time. We hope to improve upon that model by adding further revenue streams. For example, with these new EVs we have had customers try out the EVs with us and then turn around and purchase the car from a dealer and we get a referral commission.","author_name":"Micah Bergdale","votes":1,"created_at":"2022-05-24T16:03:11Z"}]},{"id":205574,"entity_id":"wefunder:comment:205574","question":"I've not learned my way around Wefunder. So we are the first that is not distracted by anything other than a laser focus on a great EV experience. We think that is critical to our long-term success. You are correct that the software we are using, developing and planning is a critical piece to the long-term profitability of the venture. Aside from Kyte, there aren’t any examples of rental car operators who have developed software for their operations from the ground up in the past few years. The closest would be Turo from over a decade ago, who we partner with, but we already see they are struggling with a software architecture and security framework built around the latest and greatest in 2010-2012, which is a lifetime in the world of tech. We firmly believe that the only way you can deliver the best experience for customers and operational efficiency is one built from the ground up addressing the challenges and opportunities that exist by having what are battery powered semi-autonomous computers on wheels. We have a number of entities who want to license and franchise outside our core market but we need to raise capital in order to support those requests.","author_name":"Micah Bergdale","votes":0,"created_at":"2022-09-24T21:30:24Z"}]},{"id":215350,"entity_id":"wefunder:comment:215350","question":"what is the estimated price per share atm ? Software is critical to the value prop of the investment. While we know we can build a foundation on vehicle assets that are rented, and we are cashflow positive right now with our rentals, we see the long-term value in the software connected to our rentals. We see software development being at least $200K and likely $1M+ cost for the business annually, but we can scale that up or down based on business needs. The ROI will take about 4-5 years compared to if we had just done SaaS solutions, which would have only partially addressed the needs of the company. By having a custom solution, we are positioning ourselves to be able to license and/or franchise the business into various markets. We already have a licensee we are negotiating with for two very lucrative foreign markets. While we don't have anything to announce yet, this is exactly the type of setup we anticipated.","author_name":"Micah Bergdale","votes":0,"created_at":"2022-07-27T16:14:57Z"}]}],"faq":[{"question":"I've not learned my way around Wefunder. What is your unique value?","answer":"Thanks for the question. This creates logistical challenges around: (1) How do rental c..."},{"question":"What is proprietary about this model? Or, what is stopping larger rental companies from doing the same thing with a better brand?","answer":"I would argue that the brands, particularly Hertz, are vulnerable to a newcomer. Turo has done a great job at disrupting the industry, and Turo's success shows that there is very little brand loyalty to the traditional brands. Which is the value of a classic car renting company?","answer":"Thank you for the question.
